Southern California Faces Brown Pelican Crisis: How You Can Help
Southern California is seeing a surge of emaciated Brown Pelicans arriving at rehabilitation centers, likely due to warmer ocean waters driving their prey into deeper, less accessible areas. The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach has treated 89 pelicans, while the International Bird Rescue in San Pedro has received over 230. The rescue efforts are costly and labor-intensive. Sea and Sage Audubon Society in Irvine has made donations and encourages personal contributions to help these organizations. Learn more about how to help at IBR Website – Pelican Crisis and WWCC Website

UC Irvine baseball defeated Tulane 17-7 in an NCAA Regional elimination game at Goss Stadium. After trailing 2-1 in the first inning, UCI took the lead and scored in the next four innings, making it 6-2. Tulane's run in the sixth was nullified by Ricky Ojeda's strong pitching. UCI's nine-run seventh inning, highlighted by doubles from Abraham Garcia-Pacheco and Caden Kendle, extended their lead to 15-3. Jo Oyama's ninth-inning home run and Luke Spillane's comeback hit sealed the win. Danny Suarez struck out five in his 2.2-inning start, with Ojeda getting his sixth win. Offensive leaders included Garcia-Pacheco, Oyama, Kendle, and Myles Smith. UCI will face Oregon State next, needing to win twice to advance in the 2024 season.
Weather Halts UC Irvine's Comeback Attempt Against Oregon State
The UC Irvine baseball game against Oregon State was suspended in the fourth inning due to weather and field conditions, with Oregon State leading 6-4.
