With eight guest conductors auditioning this season and four more next year, the process highlights several trends in the orchestral world: a shortage of women and American conductors, lack of diversity, and new financial challenges. Springtime at Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks is a critical period for monitoring wildlife, especially raptors like Red-Tailed Hawks, Great Horned Owls, Barn Owls, Cooperβs Hawks, and Red-Shouldered Hawks. The Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) has been tracking these birds for nearly a decade to identify sensitive nesting areas and adjust public activities accordingly, as well as to monitor population trends. Notably, the White-Tailed Kite, a species in decline since the early 2000s, showed a higher nest success rate this year, indicating a positive trend. For more details, check out bit.ly/45d51vz!
