Sixth Victory in Seven Years: University High Dominates Regional Science Competition

University High School won the Regional Science Bowl, marking their sixth victory in seven years. The competition featured 20 teams in a Jeopardy-style contest covering various scientific fields. The winning team, consisting of seniors Nathan Ouyang, Wendy Cao, Julianne Wu, junior Yufei Chen, and sophomore Feodor Yevtushenko, will advance to the national competition in Washington, DC this April. Congratulations to the team!

UC Irvine Women's Volleyball Welcomes Power Duo to Join in 2024

UC Irvine's women's volleyball team welcomes two new players for 2024: transfer Katelyn Smith, a 6-3 outside hitter from USC, and freshman Ava Gronemeyer, a 6-2 outside hitter. Smith, graduating from USC in three years, joins UCI for a Master's program, bringing experience from NCAA Tournament play and academic honors. Gronemeyer, coming from Viewpoint HS and notable volleyball clubs, is praised for her work ethic and talent. Both are expected to significantly contribute to the team's success.
UC Irvine Men's Golf Springs into Action at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

The UC Irvine men's golf team will start their spring season at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate from Feb. 6-8 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, CA, playing a par-72 course at 7,322 yards. They're competing in a 17-team field, including their 5-count-4 lineup of Darien Zhao, Jin Nakao, Jason Tang, Yaoting Zou, and Rei Harashima. This marks their third consecutive year at the event. The team ended the fall season with a historic performance at the Kapolei Invitational, tying for sixth with a 38-under score. Senior Darien Zhao and freshman Jason Tang have stood out, with Zhao achieving a career-best at the Nick Watney Invitational and Tang impressing in his collegiate debut. Four players enter the spring with averages below 73. Next, the team will co-host the Orange County Collegiate Classic on Feb. 12-13.

Irvine High School Boys Basketball Secures Playoff Spot with Win Over Portola

Irvine High School's boys basketball team secured fourth place and a CIF Division 4 playoff spot by defeating Portola 71-51, marking their first playoff appearance since the 2014-15 season. The victory was celebrated as a significant achievement, with Irvine now ranked fourth in the CIF 4A poll. Coach Harry Meussner highlighted the team's hard work and dedication, noting the special nature of this playoff berth as their first in nine years. Key players included Cooper Stearns with 21 points and contributions from Finn Hoffman, Jaesang An, Taewon Kim, and Ali Dal. The win was a team effort, overcoming challenges and injuries throughout the season. Portola's top scorers were Emmett Lo and Brady Kim.
