Irvine Police Crack Down on Loud Vehicles and Street Racing with High Visibility Enforcement Operations

The Traffic Bureau conducted two High Visibility Enforcement operations on Thursday to address community complaints. In the morning, they targeted the Great Park Neighborhoods, and in the afternoon, they focused on the Campus and University areas due to concerns over loud vehicles and street racing. According to Vehicle Code 27151, modifying a vehicle's exhaust to amplify noise beyond legal limits is prohibited, with a sound level cap of 95 dbA for vehicles under 6,000 pounds, excluding motorcycles, as per the Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998.

Strategies to Combat Memory Loss and Enhance Brain Health

A daily routine filled with exercise, social interaction, and engaging activities can mitigate short-term memory issues in aging individuals. Memory loss, while often a part of aging, varies in its reversibility, largely depending on its cause. For temporary conditions like concussions, recovery is possible, but dementia-related losses are irreversible.

Key strategies include:

  • maintaining a consistent routine

  • focusing on cognitively demanding tasks when most alert

  • using mnemonic devices

  • breaking down large tasks

Preventative measures against further memory decline emphasize the importance of physical activity, social engagement, adequate sleep, and cognitive stimulation. This holistic approach underlines lifestyle's role in managing and potentially reducing the impact of memory loss.

Spring Gardening Made Simple: Clean, Mulch, Fertilize

Here is a short spring garden to-do list, which includes cleaning, mulching, and fertilizing your garden. These steps are essential for maintaining a healthy and vibrant garden during the spring season.

  1. Cleaning: Removing weeds is crucial for preventing them from competing with your plants for nutrients and water. It is suggested to hand remove weed or use boiling water which is great for those looking to avoid chemical herbicides. The University of California Integrated Pest Management Program provides valuable resources for managing pests in an environmentally friendly way.

  2. Mulching: Applying compost and mulch around your plants can help retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and reduce weed growth. It's important to keep the mulch away from the trunks and stems of plants to prevent rot. Save 50% on bulk mulch and stock up here.

  3. Fertilizing: Using organic fertilizers in the spring can provide your plants with the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. Organic fertilizers are also better for the environment compared to synthetic ones.
