The Great Park Framework Plan is advancing with the introduction of key architects, land developers, and partners. A series of videos will soon highlight the planning and collaboration behind the park's next development phase.

Orange County Recognizes Irvine Educators for Innovation in Arts Teaching

Five teachers from Irvine Unified School District were honored for their arts education contributions. Alicia Parker received the Orange County Outstanding Arts Educator Award for elementary visual arts. Katie Derus was recognized with the Julianna McGrath Memorial Award for elementary teaching. Quiana Arguelles, Rosemary Montgomery, and Kearci Thompson were nominated for their excellence in elementary vocal music, secondary vocals, and secondary visual arts, respectively. These awards, presented by the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators, celebrate teachers who excel in promoting artistic growth among students through commitment, innovation, and excellence.
OCSA Awards Fellowship to Mr. Cortez for Innovative Plein Air Workshop Initiative

Mr. Andrew Cortez won the OCSA Artist Teacher Fellowship Award to support his artistic development. He'll use the grant for a Plein Air workshop with Ms. Camille Przewodek, focusing on landscape painting and color techniques. Cortez aims to share these skills with his students and the local community, including teaching a Plein Air workshop at OCSA to paint the surrounding neighborhood.

UC Irvine Women's Track & Field Dominates at Ben Brown Invitational with Three Major Wins

At the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, Calif., the UC Irvine women's track & field team secured three event victories. Freshman Kailah McKenzie made a notable debut in the high jump, setting a personal best of 1.76m, the third-highest in the program's history. Senior Deandra Tyler won her second consecutive shot put event with a season-best throw of 15.33m, while sophomore Nyla Baker also performed well in the same event. In the discus, sophomore Nadia Combs-Mahone placed eighth. The 4x100 relay team, consisting of junior Reyna Johnson, freshman Hallena Sutherland, sophomore Samantha Bartz, and senior Aryel Coats, won their event. Sutherland also stood out in the 200m sprint. Senior Alexis Alexander led in the 400m, and freshman Sarah Ajayi and senior Journee Harvey excelled in the hurdles. The team concluded the meet with a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay. UCI is set to compete again at Titan Track Stadium on March 15 for the Challenge Cup.
UC Irvine Women's Basketball Triumphs Over Cal State Fullerton, 69-53, in Season Finale

UC Irvine's women's basketball team concluded their regular season with a decisive 69-53 victory over Cal State Fullerton, leading throughout the game. The win was celebrated on Senior Day, honoring four seniors for their contributions. The team's success was attributed to the hard work and leadership of these players, particularly noted by head coach Tamara Inoue. Key player performances included Moulayna Johnson Sidi Baba with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Diaba Konate with eight points and seven assists. The Anteaters showcased their strength with a 46% field goal percentage and a solid defensive game, forcing more turnovers and steals than their opponents. The victory positions UC Irvine as the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Big West Championships. The team has consistently performed well in the conference, maintaining a top-two position for the last five years and achieving a notable record at the Bren Events Center.

Grant Dvorak Named Athlete of the Week After Stellar Performances for Irvine Valley Volleyball

Grant Dvorak, a freshman men's volleyball player at Irvine Valley, was named athlete of the week for his significant contributions to two victories, extending the Lasers' win streak to four and improving their record to 6-2. Ranked No. 5 in the state, Irvine Valley defeated No. 8 Grossmont and No. 9 Miramar, with Dvorak showcasing outstanding performance in both matches. He recorded a total of 22 kills, a .424 hitting average, 47 assists, five digs, and five blocks across the two games. Dvorak, standing at 6-6 and hailing from Corona del Mar High School, averages 2.21 kills, .384 hitting, 5.77 assists, and 1.03 digs per set.

An employee's credit card was stolen from a vehicle in Irvine, leading to 29 fraudulent transactions and a $22,000 loss. Surveillance identified eight suspects involved across Orange County. Irvine PD seeks help in identifying them; contact [email protected] if you have information.
