E-bike safety is crucial for both riders and those around them. As e-bikes gain popularity, understanding and adhering to safety guidelines is essential to prevent accidents and ensure a harmonious coexistence on the road. Here are some key safety tips every e-bike rider should follow:

  • E-bikes are categorized into Type 1 and 2 (up to 20 mph) and Type 3 which can go up to 28 mph and are for 16+ only.

  • Cyclists should be aware of traffic flow; unexpected speeds can cause danger.

  • Signal pedestrians with a bell and pass safely.

UCI Men's Basketball Dominates CSUN 89-64, Secures Spot in Big West Championship Semifinal

UC Irvine secured an 89-64 win over CSUN, maintaining a lead from early in the game. The Anteaters had a strong start, leading 17-4 within the first four minutes and extending their lead to 47-26 by halftime, marking their largest halftime lead against a Big West opponent this season. UCI's post players, led by Bent Leuchten with 16 points, contributed significantly to the victory, scoring 43 points. The team's defense was also notable, with contributions across the board leading to a comprehensive win. Pierre Crockrell II stood out with 11 assists, contributing to UCI's dominance in rebounds and shooting efficiency. The win improves UCI's record to 21-8 overall and 14-3 in the league, securing a top-two spot in the Big West and advancing them to the championship semifinal. The game highlighted UCI's balanced team effort and strategic play, setting a positive tone for their upcoming matches.

UC Irvine's women's basketball team secured a 64-54 victory over CSUN, showcasing their dominance on the rebound front with a 51-32 advantage, nearly matching their season-high. Key players Moulayna Johnson Sidi Baba and Nevaeh Parkinson led the rebounding effort. The win, marked by a strong defensive performance and efficient scoring, improved UCI's record to 18-8 overall and 13-4 in the Big West. Junior Dรฉja Lee stood out with 20 points, contributing to the team's ninth double-digit win of the season and reinforcing their strong home record (9-2). The victory also highlighted UCI's defensive prowess, keeping their opponent under 60 points for the 18th time this season. Irvine Valley Men's Tennis Team Secures Another 9-0 Victory, Moves to 3-0 Season Start

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team improved their record to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a dominant 9-0 win against Fullerton, marking their second consecutive 9-0 victory. The team excelled in both doubles and singles matches, with notable performances including an 8-1 win by the No. 1 doubles team of freshmen Nick Grove and Luciano Pardo, and a flawless 6-0, 6-0 singles victory by Lucas Diaz. All IVC players won their singles matches in straight sets, contributing to the comprehensive win. The team is set to host Saddleback for another conference match next Tuesday.

Irvine Valley Men's Volleyball Dominates Grossmont in Straight-Set Win

The No. 5 state-ranked Irvine Valley men's volleyball team defeated No. 8 Grossmont on the road, improving their record to 4-2 with a straight-set win (25-18, 25-15, 29-27). Freshman Drake Goering led with 12 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, alongside notable performances from Matt Reid and Grant Dvorak. The team showcased a strong .388 hitting percentage overall. Their next game is at home against Palomar on Friday at 6 p.m.

A resident left their garage door open during a walk, and upon return, found a burglar exiting their home with stolen items. Irvine police swiftly arrested the suspect. There have been 26 garage thefts this year, with this incident involving entry into the home. Residents are urged to secure their homes, regardless of their absence duration.
