March Marks National Nutrition Month: A Guide to Balanced Eating with UCI Health

March is National Nutrition Month, emphasizing the importance of balanced eating with a focus on four key food groups, as outlined by Katie Rankell from UCI Health Weight Management Program:

  • Fruits and Vegetables: Essential for their low calorie content, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which promote health and disease prevention.

  • Dairy: Despite current trends, dairy offers benefits like calcium for bone strength and heart health, with Greek yogurt highlighted for its probiotics.

  • Protein: Crucial for muscle maintenance, healing, satiety, and metabolic rate enhancement, aiding in healthy weight management.

  • Starch: Encouraged in the form of whole grains for energy, digestive health, and to prevent bloating, with a reminder to increase water intake with fiber.

UCI Health aims to foster a healthier community, with more information available on their website.
