Irvine PD's Young Protégés Shine in National Law Enforcement Competition

The Irvine Police Department's Explorer program, aimed at teens interested in law enforcement, recently excelled at the Chandler, Arizona Tactical Competition. Competing against 55 teams nationwide, they won several awards including 1st in Vertical Assault and 2nd in Drug Raid. Isabel, a 2023 summer intern, was part of the successful team. UC Irvine Men's Tennis Team Gears Up for Exciting 2024 Season Opener Against Westcliff and USC

UC Irvine's men's tennis team starts their 2024 season facing Westcliff on Jan. 18 and No. 7 USC on Jan. 20. They're returning with a strong team, including seven experienced players from last year's squad that had a 13-8 record and shared the Big West regular-season title. Key players include Noah Zamora and Enrique Luque Rico, both with impressive records and honors. The team also welcomes new talents like blue-chip recruit Andy Nguyen and graduate transfers Rahul Dhokia and Hiroki Sakagawa. UCI has a history of success, including 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and four Big West Tournament titles, and they've been recognized for academic excellence. They face Westcliff, who had a strong previous season, and USC, a formidable opponent with a successful 2023 season. UCI's next matches are against BYU and San Diego State on Jan. 26 and 27.
Anteater of the Week: UCI Volleyball's Hilir Henno Shatters Records in Season's Opening Matches

Hilir Henno, a junior volleyball player at UC Irvine, was named Sgt. Pepperoni’s Anteater of the Week for his outstanding performance in the season's first three matches. He began with a double-double against George Mason, continued with a record-breaking performance against Saint Francis, and tied his school record against Princeton. Henno's weekly stats include an average of 3.67 kills, 1.50 digs, 1.08 aces, and 0.67 blocks per set, bringing his career aces total to 145.

Irvine Valley's Women's Basketball Rises: Christen Ziska Athlete of the Week

Christen Ziska, a sophomore at Irvine Valley, was named athlete of the week on, for her performance in women's basketball. She scored 22 points in a recent game, helping her team defeat Santa Ana 74-60. Irvine Valley is now ranked 14th in the state with a 10-6 record. Ziska, averaging 10.9 points this season, has been a key player, previously contributing to the team's success in the last season's regional playoffs.
