Join the Black Star Canyon Wilderness Trek
Black Star Canyon offers trails for all levels of:
hikers, bikers, and equestrians
options ranging from easy 30-minute walks to challenging 7+ mile treks. No pre-registration is required
Bring necessary safety gear and stay on designated trails to avoid fines and for safety, as the area has wildlife and rugged terrain.
Trails close by 2:00 pm, and dogs and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Minors should be accompanied by adults, and helmets are required for minors (and recommended for adults) on bikes or horses. Equestrians must register separately. The event is on January 6 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, suitable for all ages.
Dance Your Way into Summer with ABT's Intensive Workshops - Auditions Start January 6
Starting January 6th, students can audition in 19 US cities for various ABT summer dance programs, including the ABT Summer Intensive and others. Top teachers and guest instructors will lead these programs. Video auditions are available for those who can't attend in person. Select auditions also consider students for the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and ABT Studio Company. Pre-registration is required due to limited space. Dan Klatt's Leadership Ushers in a New Era of Excellence for UC Irvine Water Polo
In 2023, Dan Klatt, as the Director of Water Polo, led UC Irvine to significant successes. He brought the women's team to their ninth Big West Championship and eighth NCAA appearance, achieving a record fourth national ranking. The team had a 20-7 overall record and was undefeated in the Big West. Additionally, in his second year with the men's team, Klatt won both the Big West regular season and championship titles, taking them to the NCAAs for the first time in 30 years. Irvine Valley College to Launch California's First Varsity Women's Flag Football Program in 2024
Irvine Valley is launching California's first varsity-level women's flag football program in spring 2024, led by Dean and Athletic Director Keith Shackleford. The decision follows increased interest in girls' flag football at high schools. Irvine Valley will hire a part-time faculty coach for training starting March 22, 2024, for college students and July 1 for incoming freshmen. The inaugural season begins on September 2, 2024. Prospective athletes can contact Shackleford or fill out a recruit form. The coach will be announced soon.
IVC Men's Basketball: Lasers Edge Out Bobcats in Nail-Biting Finish
Irvine Valley men's basketball team defeated Saddleback 64-61, improving their record to 10-4 and 1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Lasers' strong defense was crucial, holding Saddleback to one of its lowest scores this season. Roman Swizek starred for Irvine Valley with 21 points, while Saddleback's James Burries scored 23 points. The game remained close, with Irvine Valley maintaining a narrow lead throughout. The team's next game is against Riverside in another important conference matchup.
