School Zone Safety Sweep: Irvine Traffic Officers Ticket 22 for Sign Violations

On Thursday morning, Irvine Traffic Bureau carried out High Visibility Enforcement near several schools, issuing 22 citations mainly for not heading traffic signs such as "no stopping," "no turn on red," and "no U-turns" during a two-hour operation.

UCI's Caden Kendle Named Big West Field Player of the Week, Ties Anteater Record

Caden Kendle was named the second Anteater hitter of the season after an impressive week, hitting .583 with a .688 on-base percentage and four extra-base hits out of seven. He contributed significantly to victories against San Diego and Michigan, and hit a crucial grand slam against UCLA at Dodger Stadium. Kendle ended the week with seven RBIs, maintaining a hitting streak in all nine season games and tying Keston Hiura's program record with an on-base streak of 52 consecutive games.
UC Irvine Men's Volleyball Sweeps UC San Diego in Straight Sets, Extends Winning Streak to Six

UC Irvine's volleyball team, ranked No. 5, secured their sixth consecutive victory by defeating No. 18 UC San Diego with a 3-0 sweep at Crawford Court. Hilir Henno led the team with 13 kills, moving into second place in UCI's all-time career aces. The Anteaters have now won 13 straight sets, improving their record to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the Big West. Key performances included William D'Arcy matching his career-best 12 kills and Brett Sheward contributing 34 set assists. Despite a season-low 2.5 blocks, UCI outperformed UCSD in hitting percentage, aces, and digs. UCI is set to participate in the OUTRIGGER Volleyball Invitational in Hawaii, facing No. 1 Grand Canyon first.

Irvine Valley Men's Volleyball Dominates Palomar in Nonconference Victory

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team, ranked No. 5, easily defeated Palomar with a score of 25-13, 25-18, 25-14, improving their record to 5-2. Coach Rory Jones rested key players ahead of a busy week, including matches against No. 9 Miramar, No. 2 San Diego Mesa, and Xavier University. The victory marked their fourth consecutive win, with contributions from nine players and 14 participating. Jared Irwin led with eight kills, while the team overall had a .397 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Yashar Khamenian and sophomore Nick Hinker managed the offense with 17 and 13 assists, respectively.

University High Triumphs Over Mission Viejo in Pre-League Baseball Showdown

University High School's baseball team defeated Mission Viejo 10-3 in an early non-league game, overcoming a 3-0 deficit with strong innings and solid pitching. The game, moved up due to rain, showcased University's resilience and teamwork. Despite Mission Viejo's quick start, University's pitchers, Austen Barnett and Cooper Berger, limited them to three early runs. University capitalized on errors and walks, with key players driving in runs to secure the lead and ultimately the win. Coach Wesley Shaw praised the team's passion and focus, looking forward to the conference play. University is set to begin Pacific Coast League play against Sage Hill, while Mission Viejo prepares for its South Coast League opener against Capistrano Valley.
