Jamboree Road Overhaul Underway - Ramps Closed, Improvements In Progress

Roadwork on Jamboree Road from Michelle Drive to the railroad tracks includes asphalt work (7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.), closures of Jamboree northbound Walnut off-ramp and southbound Walnut on-ramp for two months. The summer completion project also covers replacing curbs, gutters, ramps, sidewalks, utility work, and striping. Updates at cityofirvine.org/roadconstruction.

Irvine and OC Goes Solar to Host Educational Workshop on Home Solar Benefits

Irvine City and OC Goes Solar are hosting a free workshop for Orange County residents to learn about home solar benefits. The workshop includes information on:
the Solarize Irvine program
group discounts for solar panels
batteries
EV chargers
the 30% Federal Tax Credit
how solar can reduce energy bills and increase home value.
Experts and vetted installers will discuss the advantages of solar energy, including pricing, equipment, warranties, financing, rebates, and environmental impact.

Anteaters Triumph Over UC Davis 15-7 in Womenโs Water Polo Tournament Finale

In the Polo Palooza tournament at Fresno State, the Anteaters, led by standout performances from Lauren Hett and Brooke Hourigan, defeated No. 11 UC Davis 15-7. Hett, a freshman, scored four goals and achieved her first collegiate hat-trick, while Hourigan, a transfer, also netted four goals. Other contributors included Libby Alexander, Gracie Helberg, Airian Grisham, Charley Birdsall, and Gabby Norris. Goalkeeper Faith Tedesco saved six shots and made a takeaway. The Anteaters maintained a strong shooting percentage and effectively limited UC Davis's power play success. Their next participation is at the Triton Invitational from Feb. 2-4, with opponents and times yet to be announced.
Record-Breaking Performance by UC Irvine Women at MLK Jr. Invitational

UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team excelled at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational in Albuquerque. Highlights include senior Mia Marquez's record-breaking 400m run, senior Alexis Alexander's personal best in the 600m, freshman Hallena Sutherland's top-10 60m time in her first college event, and strong performances in the 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and weight throw. The team is set to compete next at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane, Washington.

Makena Tomlinson Shines as Irvine Valley's Athlete of the Week with Stellar Basketball Performance

Makena Tomlinson, a sophomore at Irvine Valley, was named athlete of the week on Jan. 22 for her exceptional performance in women's basketball. She scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds in a win against Fullerton. Tomlinson leads her team in scoring and rebounding, contributing to IVC's current 12-6 record. Their next game is on Wednesday at Cypress.

Crean Boys Basketball Bounces Back: Defeats Tustin 57-45 in Empire League Showdown

Crean Lutheran High School's boys basketball team beat Tustin 57-45, recovering from a recent loss that ended their 34-game win streak. Senior guard Troy Jenkins scored a season-high 28 points, leading Crean Lutheran to victory. The win keeps Crean Lutheran's hopes of sharing the league title with Cypress alive. Tustin stayed competitive, with Johnny Sagarino scoring 23 points, but couldn't overcome Crean Lutheran's strong finish. The teams will meet again soon.

Irvine Police Intercept Man with Stolen Bike, Issue Drug Paraphernalia Citation

Early Sunday, Irvine police stopped a man riding with an extra, front-tire-missing bike he claimed to have found. Officers took the bike to the station for him and cited him for drug paraphernalia possession after discovering his collection of Wild West gun lighters. The police seek the owner of the green Diamondback bike.
