UC Irvine Baseball Blasts Past Hawai'i, 12-5, Completing Road Sweep

In a significant road sweep at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu, the UC Irvine baseball team clinched a commanding 12-5 victory over Hawai'i, showcasing their dominance throughout the series. The Anteaters set the tone early in the game, scoring five runs in the opening inning and quickly extending their lead. Despite a spirited comeback from Hawai'i, highlighted by Kyson Donahue's three-run home run, UC Irvine's offense proved too potent, with Abraham Garcia Pacheco's two-run single and Caden Kendle's standout performance leading the charge. Kendle, in particular, had a remarkable game, contributing significantly to the team's total of 17 hits. The pitching staff, taking over after Brandon Luu allowed five runs, effectively shut down Hawai'i's offense for the remainder of the game. Ricky Ojeda, Ryder Brooks, and Nick Rincover each played a crucial role in maintaining the lead, with Brooks delivering a standout performance on his birthday. The team's depth was on full display, with every player who stepped up to the plate hitting successfully, contributing to the team's impressive season record of 22-3 and a 8-1 mark in Big West play. This victory not only highlighted UC Irvine's offensive power but also underscored their resilience and teamwork, setting a positive tone as they head into a three-game home series against UC Santa Barbara.

Deandra Tyler won the shot put with a meet record of 15.23m and was second in the hammer throw. Alana Sugue won the pole vault with a personal best of 3.72m, ranking fourth in school history. Laura Sangiacomo placed second in the javelin with a season-best throw. On the track, Hallena Sutherland won the 100m, Jazzmine Davis took the 100m hurdles, Malia Gay won the 800m with a personal best, and Rebecca Bronstein dominated the 5000m with a personal record. Lauren Aquino was second in the 400m, and the team had strong performances in the 1500m and the 4x400 relay, with several athletes setting personal or season bests. UCI is set to compete next at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla.
