UC Irvine Men's Tennis to Host BYU and San Diego State This Weekend

UC Irvine's men's tennis team will play two home matches at Anteater Tennis Stadium: against BYU on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. and San Diego State on Jan. 27 at 12 p.m. The Anteaters, Big West champions in 2022 and regular-season co-champions in 2023, return with a strong lineup, including all four All-Big West selections from last season. Despite a tough 7-0 loss to No. 7 USC recently, they had a strong start to the season with a 7-0 win over Westcliff University. BYU, at 1-1, looks to build on a mixed start, while undefeated San Diego State (2-0) aims to continue its strong performance in doubles and singles. UC Irvine's roster features a blend of experienced players and promising newcomers, including two graduate transfers and a highly ranked freshman, reflecting a mix of local talent and international players. Following these matches, the team will travel to Northern California in February.

Irvine Valley Women's Basketball Clinches Fourth Straight Conference Victory Against Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team secured their fourth consecutive win in the Orange Empire Conference by defeating Cypress 71-47, showcasing impressive team performance with a 49.1% field goal rate and 48% three-point success. Key player Emily Freeman led with 18 points, including a season-high six three-pointers. The Lasers now hold a 13-6 overall record and a 4-1 conference record, ranking them second in the conference. Contributions also came from Moka Saiki with 17 points and Makena Tomlinson with 13 points and seven rebounds. Defensively, Irvine Valley limited Cypress to a 25% shooting success rate and forced 22 turnovers. The team looks forward to their next game against Saddleback.

Officers in Irvine stopped a minivan with mismatched license plates on Tuesday night, discovering it was stolen from Long Beach. The driver was arrested and taken to Orange County Jail.

Irvine Police Crack Down on Retail Crime; Suspect Apprehended with Public's Help

Irvine PD sought a man for stealing iPads from Target, aided by community tips. Detectives and other agencies worked together, leading to the arrest of Andrew Michael Standridge, 33, from San Clemente, by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Organized Retail Crime Task Force in Costa Mesa. He faces multiple charges. Thanks extended to the community and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for their help.
