OCFA Responds to Vehicle Fire on Southbound 405: Drivers Safe, Investigation Underway

Firefighters addressed a two-car collision with one vehicle on fire on the southbound 405 Freeway near Jamboree and Culver. Both drivers were evaluated; only the driver in the burning vehicle had minor injuries. The cause is under investigation by the CHP. Traffic lanes were closed for safety during the operation.

Orange County Rallies Against Human Trafficking: Vanguard University Hosts Educational Event

UCI Women's Water Polo Team Set to Face Tough Rivals in La Jolla's Triton Invitational

The UC Irvine Anteaters, ranked sixth, will play four games at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, facing No. 11 LMU and No. 5 Fresno State. LMU has a 6-1 record and is on a four-game winning streak, while Fresno State also stands at 6-1, having won significant matches in recent tournaments. UC Irvine has historically performed well against these teams. Key players for UC Irvine include Brooke Hourigan, leading in goals, Lauren Hett with the most points, and Faith Tedesco as the starting goalkeeper with a notable save percentage.

Maxim Grigoriev Earns Sgt. Pepperoniโ€™s Anteater of the Week with Stellar Volleyball Performance Against BYU

UC Irvine's sophomore Maxim Grigoriev was named Sgt. Pepperoniโ€™s Anteater of the Week for leading his team to two victories over BYU. He achieved a career-high 16 kills and 10 digs in the first match and followed up with 15 kills and nine digs in the second, averaging 3.44 kills and 2.11 digs per set for the week.

Irvine Valley Baseball Scores Big with 10 Runs in Four Innings, Defeats West LA 11-0

Irvine Valley's baseball team dominated West LA with an 11-0 victory at home. The Lasers scored 10 runs in the first four innings, moving their season record to 2-1, while West LA dropped to 1-3. Key players included Chase Quezada, Shaun McCaghren, and Shane Stafford, who contributed significantly with home runs and RBIs. Sophomore Chris Cody excelled as pitcher, allowing only three hits over seven innings. The team's next game is against San Diego City on Friday.

Empire League Triumph: Crean Lutheran Girls Basketball Clinch Title with Decisive Win Over Cypress

Crean Lutheran High School's girls basketball team won the Empire League title with a 57-47 victory over Cypress. Junior Sydnee Norwood led the team with 26 points. This win marked the Saints' first league title since the 2021-22 season and celebrated co-head coach Bianca Ziemann's 100th victory with the program. Despite challenges like injuries and illness, the team showed resilience. Crean Lutheran led at halftime and maintained their lead, despite Cypress' efforts. The victory also sets the stage for Crean Lutheran's participation in the 2AA playoffs next week. Bianca Ziemann emphasized the team's hard work and dedication in her post-game remarks.
