Join the Festive Fervor: Irvine Chinese School Hosts Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year Festivities

The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center and Irvine Chinese School are preparing for their Lunar New Year Celebration, marking the Year of the Dragon, on February 10th and 11th. This event, aligning with weekend classes, will feature a carnival, outdoor performances, and the announcement of winners for the fall academic poster competition. It's designed to celebrate academic achievements and community spirit. Parents and students are encouraged to join the festivities aimed at welcoming the new year together.

Global Gatherings: How the Lunar New Year Celebrates New Beginnings Across Cultures

The Lunar New Year, celebrated as Tet in Vietnam, brings families and communities together to welcome new beginnings with days of traditions. This year's festivities include sharing meals, honoring ancestors, and exchanging red envelopes for luck. Key customs involve house cleaning, wearing new clothes, and avoiding certain activities to preserve good fortune. 2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon, symbolizing ambition, charisma, and renewal.

Campfire Safety: Say "No" to Accelerant

In observance of National Burn Awareness Week, reports highlight the hazards associated with using accelerants such as gasoline and aerosol sprays for igniting campfires. These substances can cause severe fires or explosions due to their volatile vapors. Despite clear warnings, accidents from misuse continue. Experts recommend safer alternatives like kindling or commercial fire starters to avoid such dangers. The focus is on spreading awareness to ensure campfire safety and prevent injuries, aiming for safer outdoor activities. #BurnSafetyWeek #InjuryPrevention
