UCI Faculty Members Lead the Way in Celebrating African Americans' Contributions to the Arts for Black History Month 2024

Black History Month, officially recognized in 1976, celebrates African American contributions, especially in arts and culture, with 2024's theme being “African Americans and the Arts.” UCI's Claire Trevor School of the Arts highlights the legacy of Donald McKayle, a pioneering African American dancer, choreographer, and teacher who made significant contributions to modern American dance and Broadway. McKayle's work, focusing on the African American experience, continues to influence globally. UCI faculty member Coleman Collins, an interdisciplinary artist, extends this legacy through his global exhibitions and research, showcasing the ongoing impact of African Americans in the arts.
