Irvine PD Shares Crucial Tips to Combat Clever Parking Lot Thieves

In the past year, Irvine reported seven incidents of distraction thefts in parking lots, involving a tactic where thieves use substances like ketchup to lure victims out of their cars to steal their valuables. Recently, an off-duty officer prevented such a theft in Orange County.
To stay safe, the Irvine Police Department advises:
staying in your car and locking doors if approached
checking your vehicle safely
maintaining distance from strangers
securing your purse
not leaving purses in shopping carts
reporting suspicious activities
