Irvine Police Conduct Traffic Operations, Issue Citations for E-bike and Traffic Violations
![]() | ![]() |
Last week, Irvine's Traffic Bureau carried out two High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) operations. The first on Wednesday targeted E-bike safety in the Great Park Neighborhoods, leading to numerous citations for juveniles riding without helmets. First-time offenders have the option to attend a bike safety course instead of paying fines. The following day, enforcement in the Quail Hill Area focused on cellphone use, speeding, and failure to stop at stop signs. These efforts are part of ongoing measures to enhance road safety through education and enforcement.

Feathered Traffic: Keeping Our Ducks and Geese Safe on Irvine Streets

As we enter the season of increased activity from our feathered friends in Irvine, the Animal Services Unit offers important guidelines for interacting with ducks and geese in our community. Residents are advised to:
Allow ducks and geese to cross the street without interference, maintaining their natural path of travel.
If you encounter ducklings struggling to climb a curb or notice ducklings or goslings without a parent nearby, do not attempt to help them directly, as geese can be very protective of their young.
Instead, call Animal Services at 949-724-7000 for assistance.
Additionally, for your safety and the safety of the animals, do not try to direct or block traffic if you see animals on the road. In such cases, it's best to contact Irvine PD and ask for help.

How to Safely Dispose of Unused Medications

Previously, flushing unused medications was a recommended disposal method. However, to protect the environment, it's now advised to avoid disposing of these substances in the toilet or trash.
For proper disposal:
Preferably take them to a household hazardous waste collection center or event.
If such facilities are unavailable, dispose of medications in the trash. Destroy the pills by crushing, breaking, and wetting them. Secure the remains in the original childproof container, seal it with tape, and throw it away.
For more detailed guidance, check the Pharmaceutical Fact Sheet and visit No Drugs Down the Drain.

UC Irvine Baseball Sweeps UC Riverside with a Dominant 12-3 Victory

UC Irvine swept UC Riverside with a 12-3 win on Sunday, completing a strong weekend at the Riverside Sports Complex. The Anteaters led early with a first-inning run and maintained control throughout, never trailing in the series. Key performances included RBI singles by Jo Oyama and Caden Kendle, and solo homers by Dub Gleed, Thomas McCaffrey, and Oyama. Pitcher Brandon Luu lasted five innings, improving his record to 5-0, while Ricky Ojeda delivered crucial relief in the middle innings. A late five-run burst in the ninth solidified the win, with the team's offense racking up 16 hits. UC Irvine remains tied atop the Big West standings with a 14-4 conference record and 32-8 overall. They face San Diego next before hosting Cal Poly. Northwood High School's baseball team secured its first Pacific Coast League title since 2013 by defeating Portola 6-1 on Friday, thereby clinching the championship outright after previously earning a share. This victory in Irvine marked the conclusion of their three-game series. Junior Paul Grossman highlighted the team's collective effort and determination, leading to their success.
