University High's Ocean Science Bowl Team Dominates Regional Competition

University High School's Ocean Science Bowl team won all 9 rounds at the regional competition in Pasadena, facing 7 schools. The event covered topics like chemistry, physics, math, biology, and Latin. Team members include seniors Maia Kopylova, Julianne Wu, Claudia Kahana, and sophomores Angelina Yan and Matthew Feng. Congratulations to the students and their supportive teachers!

UC Irvine's Ophthalmology Department Wins Prestigious $575K Research Grant

The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology received a $575,000 Unrestricted Grant from Research to Prevent Blindness for a five-year period. This grant will enhance eye research and support faculty projects. UCI is one of 29 institutions nationwide to receive this grant, awarded based on the department's research quality, equipment, and staff, as assessed by RPB's Scientific Advisory Panel.

Pretend City's Baby Bowl: A Morning of Developmental Fun for Toddlers and Parents

Pretend City hosts its 3rd Annual โBaby Bowlโ on February 11 from 8-9:30 am, catering exclusively to infants and young toddlers (0-18 months). The event offers a football-themed photo booth and an obstacle course, aimed at helping parents understand their babyโs developmental milestones. Attendance is limited to this age group, excluding older siblings. The fee is $12, though it's free for infants and Pretend City members. Pre-registration is mandatory as walk-ins are not permitted.

UC Irvine Women's Basketball to Face Long Beach State and CSUN in Upcoming Big West Games

UC Irvine's women's basketball team is set to play Long Beach State on Jan. 25 and CSUN on Jan. 27. Irvine Valley Soccer Defender Gabriel Velasco Signs with Western Illinois University

Gabriel Velasco, a defender from Irvine Valley men's soccer team, has signed with Western Illinois University, a Division I school. He contributed to the team's strong performance over two years, including a 12-4-6 record this season and reaching the So. Cal. Regional Playoff final. Velasco played 15 games this season, assisting once and helping limit opponents to 33 goals in 22 games. Western Illinois University competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Irvine Police Take DUI Suspect into Custody, Recover Stolen Firearm

Irvine police arrested a man found passed out in a car near Main St. Equinox, likely due to alcohol. They discovered a stolen Glock pistol in the vehicle and booked him for DUI and possession of the stolen gun.
