UC Irvine Researchers Identify Potential Targets for Reducing Chemotherapy Side Effects

Researchers at the University of California, Irvine found a link between higher blood levels of omega-3 and interleukin-8 and increased gastrointestinal symptoms during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.
This study, published in the journal Supportive Care in Cancer, suggests these biomarkers could be used to predict and potentially mitigate these symptoms.
The research, focusing on breast cancer patients, indicates that both the disease and chemotherapy contribute to inflammation causing these symptoms.
The team analyzed inflammatory biomarkers and plasma levels in 31 patients, aiming to improve life quality and treatment by understanding these biomarkers.
The study was supported by grants from various institutions, including the National University of Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore.

Border Crisis Escalates: Border Towns At A Crossroads Facing Funding Dilemma Amid The Unprecedented Influx Of Migrants

This video highlights the challenges faced by the local governments at the southern states such as California and Arizona, illustrating the impact of open border policies on stressing local support systems. San Diego, not far from Irvine, is particularly affected. The influx of migrants, now in the millions, is expected to spread beyond border towns, potentially affecting cities across the United States.
The footage specifically shows a sharp increase in Chinese migrants, predominantly single adult men crossing the southern border. This rise is placing a significant burden on San Diego, forcing considerations for multi-million dollar spending in migrant services. In the past two months alone, about 10,000 Chinese nationals have entered the U.S., a substantial increase from the previous year. This situation is leading to a strain on resources, with San Diego County contemplating a $3 million budget for addressing migrant needs.
