Nighttime Construction Alert: SR-133 Auxiliary Lane Project in Orange County Kicks Off

Caltrans is starting construction on State Route 133 in Orange County to add an auxiliary lane from the 133/405 split to Irvine Center Drive, beginning the week of February 26, with initial work at night including bridge barrier demolition. UC Irvine Women's Basketball Secures Season Sweep Over UC Santa Barbara with 54-46 Victory

UC Irvine's women's basketball team secured a season sweep against UC Santa Barbara with a 54-46 victory, maintaining a lead throughout the game. They started strong with a 14-0 run and managed to keep the lead despite a late comeback attempt by UCSB. Key players included Déja Lee with 14 points and Moulayna Johnson Sidi Baba with 11 points and six rebounds. The Anteaters showcased strong defense, forcing 23 turnovers and limiting UCSB to 39.5% shooting. Despite UCSB's edge in rebounds, UCI's efficient play and strategic clock management led to their win. UC Irvine Tennis Prepares for Weekend Matches Against New Mexico and Cal State LA

The Anteaters of UC Irvine, with a 2-5 record, are set to host New Mexico on Feb. 23 and then travel to face Cal State LA on Feb. 24. In their season so far, they secured a 7-0 win against Jessup but lost to Sacramento State (4-0) and UC Davis (4-3). Key highlights include strong doubles performances, particularly against Jessup, and mixed results in singles matches across the games. Sophomore Amanda Perez is notable for a five-game winning streak in singles. Historically, UCI has an even record against New Mexico (1-1) and has consistently defeated Cal State Los Angeles, holding a 2-0 series advantage.

New Mexico enters the weekend undefeated (6-0), with standout players Hsuan Huang and Maud Vandeputte leading in individual play. They face UC Riverside before playing UCI. The win was highlighted by outstanding pitching from freshmen AJ Roettger and Zack Marker, who allowed only one run and five hits combined. Marker earned the win with a hitless four-inning relief. Irvine's Economic Crimes Unit Cracks Major Embezzlement Case

Since 2021, an Economic Crimes Investigator has been probing an embezzlement where $372,000 was stolen from a business using a company credit card and checks. Charlene Hoffman, 57, from Corona, was arrested by The Investigations Bureau and charged with grand theft, embezzlement, identity theft, forgery, money laundering, and falsifying records, and is now in Orange County Jail.
