Expert Tips for Overcoming Common Sleep Challenges: Insights from Dr. Rami Khayat
Dr. Rami Khayat, a sleep medicine expert, discusses common sleep issues and solutions. Adequate REM sleep is crucial for health, but various factors can disrupt it.
For those not tired at bedtime, Khayat suggests evening exercise to aid sleep initiation.
Restless leg syndrome, affecting up to 10% of Americans, can be alleviated with exercise and warm baths.
Vivid dreams and sleep disturbances can be caused by sleep disorders, alcohol, caffeine, or mental health issues; maintaining a regular sleep schedule and avoiding stimulants before bed can help.
For middle-of-the-night awakenings, Khayat advises engaging in quiet activities if unable to sleep and avoiding electronics.
Planning for the next day's tasks in the evening can also promote better rest.
Meet Irvine's Feathered Residents: The Fascinating Life of the California Quail
The California Quail in Irvine is 9-11 inches long with a 12-15 inch wingspan. It's plump with a small head, short neck, and a topknot of feathers. Males have gray and brown coloring with white-striped black faces, while females are brown without facial markings. They primarily forage on the ground and have a distinctive three-syllable call, sounding like "chi-CAH-go," which can be repeated over 10 times.
