Expert Tips for Overcoming Common Sleep Challenges: Insights from Dr. Rami Khayat

Dr. Rami Khayat, a sleep medicine expert, discusses common sleep issues and solutions. Adequate REM sleep is crucial for health, but various factors can disrupt it.

  • For those not tired at bedtime, Khayat suggests evening exercise to aid sleep initiation.

  • Restless leg syndrome, affecting up to 10% of Americans, can be alleviated with exercise and warm baths.

  • Vivid dreams and sleep disturbances can be caused by sleep disorders, alcohol, caffeine, or mental health issues; maintaining a regular sleep schedule and avoiding stimulants before bed can help.

  • For middle-of-the-night awakenings, Khayat advises engaging in quiet activities if unable to sleep and avoiding electronics.

  • Planning for the next day's tasks in the evening can also promote better rest.

Meet Irvine's Feathered Residents: The Fascinating Life of the California Quail

The California Quail in Irvine is 9-11 inches long with a 12-15 inch wingspan. It's plump with a small head, short neck, and a topknot of feathers. Males have gray and brown coloring with white-striped black faces, while females are brown without facial markings. They primarily forage on the ground and have a distinctive three-syllable call, sounding like "chi-CAH-go," which can be repeated over 10 times.
