Celebrate Lunar New Year Festivities with South Coast Chinese Cultural Center

The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center and Irvine Spectrum Center are hosting a grand Lunar New Year celebration on February 10, 2024, at the Irvine Spectrum Center.
The event features performances by various groups from the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, including orchestral music, dance, martial arts, and the traditional Dragon Lion Dance, offering a vibrant showcase of Chinese culture and arts.
This celebration provides a unique opportunity for the community to experience the festivities of the Lunar New Year, with performances designed to bring joy, luck, and prosperity to attendees.
The Southern Coast Chinese Cultural Center aims to promote Chinese cultural heritage, while the Irvine Spectrum Center is a key shopping and entertainment hub in Southern California.

UCI Women's Water Polo Defeats UC Davis 11-8 at Triton Invitational, Secures Seventh Place

UC Irvine, ranked No. 6, defeated No. 16 UC Davis 11-8 at the Triton Invitational, securing seventh place. Freshman Annabelle Mundelius stood out with two goals, contributing to a diverse offensive effort that saw ten Anteaters scoring. This victory marks UC Irvine's second win over UC Davis this season. The game featured a strong start by both teams, but UC Irvine's consistent offense and solid defense across all periods led to their win. Next, UC Irvine will face UCLA in Los Angeles on February 10.
UC Irvine Men's Basketball Hits Season Second-Best 61.4% FG in Dominant Win Against Hawai'i

UC Irvine dominated Hawai'i with a 93-68 win, showcasing exceptional shooting accuracy at 61.4% from the field and 91.3% from the free-throw line. The team's offensive effort was highlighted by contributions from 11 players, with this game marking their second-best field goal percentage of the season. They also excelled in free throws, matching their season's second-highest made. The victory featured a strong inside game, outscoring Hawai'i 62-34 in the paint and leading in rebounds 37-25. Center Bent Leuchten led the scoring with 15 points, while freshman Carter Welling matched his career-best with 14 points and seven rebounds. The win positions UC Irvine at the top of the Big West standings with a 17-6 record (10-1 in conference play). The team also maintained its perfect home record and continued its dominance when wearing white uniforms. Next, UC Irvine faces UC Santa Barbara on the road.

Irvine Valley Baseball Secures 4-3 Victory Over San Diego City

The Irvine Valley baseball team improved to a 3-1 record with a 4-3 win over San Diego City, thanks to a strong start by sophomore pitcher Caden Byers, who pitched seven shutout innings. Early scoring, including RBI hits from Jimmy Zakhar, Wyatt Fischer, Nomar Vasquez, and Conner Hoskinson, secured the Lasers' lead. Despite a late rally by San Diego City, Irvine Valley held on for the victory, with Colin Rhee earning his first save and Byers his first win of the season. The team looks forward to their next game against Grossmont.

Crean Lutheran High School's girls basketball team finished an undefeated season in the Empire League by beating Tustin 57-34, led by standout performances from Maddy Nguyen, Jane Hewitt, and Savannah Brawley. The team, coached by Bianca Ziemann who recently celebrated her 100th win, clinched the league title earlier in the week.
Crean Lutheran Boys Basketball Secures Fourth Straight Empire League Championship with Win Over Tustin

Crean Lutheran High School's boys basketball team won their fourth consecutive Empire League championship by defeating Tustin 65-49, sharing the title with Cypress as both teams finished with a 9-1 record. Sophomore Kaiden Bailey led the Saints with 19 points. The victory reflects the team's resilience and improvement throughout a season marked by a challenging schedule, according to Coach Nate Klitzing and Bailey. The win against Tustin, highlighted by strategic plays and strong defensive efforts, propels Crean Lutheran into the CIF Division 1 playoffs as a top seed, while Tustin enters as the league's No. 3 team. The game also served as a senior night for several Crean Lutheran players.

Irvine Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Stolen Backpack and Hot Cheetos

In Irvine, two women were arrested after causing traffic disruptions. One was found with a stolen backpack, drug paraphernalia, and various stolen IDs and credit cards, along with Flaminโ Hot Cheetos. Both had outstanding warrants and were booked into Orange County Jail.
