Help Plan the Future of Irvineโs Public Libraries at Upcoming Community Meetings

The new Irvine Public Library is opening in August, and the City is inviting residents to help plan the future of its library system. Community input is needed on potential branch locations, building design, and public spaces to ensure they reflect the communityโs needs and values. Public meetings will take place from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:
Monday, June 2 โ Deerfield Community Center
Wednesday, June 4 โ Las Lomas Community Center
Monday, June 9 โ Stonegate Elementary School
Wednesday, June 11 โ Lakeview Senior Center
Thursday, June 12 โ Portola Springs Community Center

Weekend Farm Breakfast Returns to Tanaka Farms with Fresh Food and Family Fun

Tanaka Farms is hosting its Rise Nโ Shine Breakfast at the Farm every weekend this summer from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM.
With each breakfast purchase, guests receive free farm admission, including a scenic tractor ride, barnyard animal visits, and access to a full restaurant-style breakfast made with fresh farm ingredients.
Menu and prices are available online. Itโs a perfect way to enjoy a farm-fresh morning outdoors.
Fresh Air Fitness Brings Yoga, HIIT, and Boxing to Spectrum Saturdays & Sundays

Fresh Air Fitness at Irvine Spectrum Center invites the community to enjoy relaxed weekend mornings with free outdoor workout classes on the Giant Wheel Lawn. Hosted by Fabletics and lululemon, the sessions include a mix of yoga, boxing, and HIIT to help you move, stretch, and recharge in the fresh air.

Irvine Adds Flashing Beacons to Seven Crosswalks for Safer Pedestrian Access

The City of Irvine has installed Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at seven key crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety. These strobe-like lights activate when pedestrians press a button, alerting drivers and enhancing visibility at crossings.
Locations include areas near trails, schools, and neighborhoods such as Venta Spur Trail & Amargosa and Shady Canyon & Quail Hill.
The installations were completed by Public Works & Sustainability staff, who will be recognized at the Public Works Week event on May 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Great Park Hangar 244.

Sierra Vista Science Olympiad Team Advances to Nationals for Fourth Consecutive Year

Sierra Vistaโs Science Olympiad team has earned an invitation to the National Science Olympiad tournament for the fourth consecutive year. At a recent awards ceremony, team members were honored with official bids and certificates of achievement from the IUSD Board of Education. Coaches commended the students for their dedication and teamwork, while Board Members Connie Stone and Cyril Yu presented the medals. The team will represent both California and IUSD at the national competition.

Volunteer for Garden Maintenance Day at Native Seed Farm on May 22

The Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) is hosting a Demonstration Garden Maintenance Day at the Native Seed Farm on Thursday, May 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will help maintain the Demonstration Garden, which showcases native plants that support local ecosystems. Tasks may include weeding, digging, watering, and more, with physical activity required.

Irvine Fine Arts Center's Student Explore Lost Wax Casting and Contemporary Jewelry Design

During the recent quarter at the Irvine Fine Arts Center, Jewelry Studio students participated in hands-on courses designed to develop technical skills and encourage creative exploration. Instruction was led by experienced faculty, with projects focusing on both traditional and contemporary jewelry-making techniques.
Lost Wax Casting:
Students worked with instructor Jojo Solo to learn the process of Lost Wax Casting, using wax models to create detailed metal jewelry pieces.Safety Pin Design Workshop:
A separate group, taught by instructor Corliss Rose, explored contemporary design by reinterpreting the safety pin into functional, wearable art.Class Enrollment:

Happy Tails! 5 Dogs and 25 Cats Adopted in Irvine Last Week

During the week of May 12โ18, five dogs (Huckleberry, Laila, Marley, Rebo, and Venus) and 25 cats found new homes. Two dogs (Romeo and Juliet), one bird (Duck), and one turtle (Slider) were transferred to rescue. Additionally, five dogs, one cat, and one bird were reunited with their owners.

UC Irvine Womenโs Track & Field Wins First-Ever Big West Title in Thrilling Finish

UC Irvine women's track & field team made history by capturing their first-ever Big West Championship, edging out Cal Poly by just 1.5 points (150.5โ149) at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach.
The title came down to the final 4x400m relay, where Jazzmine Davis and Luz Mercado helped secure a sixth-place finishโcrucially ahead of Cal Polyโto clinch the team victory.
Davis earned three podium finishes, including a win in the 400m hurdles (58.14) and third in the 100m hurdles (13.42), while Mercado won the 800m (2:08.12).
Other key contributors included Malia Gay, Esmeray Demirbas, Halle Sutherland, Samantha Bartz, Reyna Johnson, Jolie Robinson, Nyla Baker, and Kaia Schmidt, who all added crucial points across sprints, field, and distance events.

IVC Volleyball's Jayva Andersen Commits to College of Idaho

Jayva Andersen, a standout in both indoor and beach volleyball at Irvine Valley College, has committed to play at NCAA Division III College of Idaho. Andersen, who played on the No. 2 beach pairs team alongside Alya Mersin, earned first team All-Orange Empire Conference honors. Irvine Valley finished the season 10-14, while her future team, the College of Idaho, ended their season at 10-8.

Irvine High Softball Advances to CIF Quarterfinals After 8-4 Win Over Highland

Irvine High School's softball team advanced to the CIF Division 5 quarterfinals after defeating Highland 8-4 on Monday in Palmdale. The Vaqueros (10-16) surged early with home runs from Jocey Knerr and Harper Vandermolen and held on with a complete game from pitcher Midori DeLosSantos. They will host JW North for a chance to reach Saturdayโs semifinal. Finals are scheduled for May 30โ31 at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine. Irvine opened the playoffs with an 11-0 win over Flintridge Sacred Heart.

Probationer Caught in Irvine with Stolen Gun and Narcotics, Booked into OC Jail

A vehicle previously linked to a narcotics case caught the attention of an alert Irvine officer. During a traffic stop, police discovered a stolen handgun and about half an ounce of meth and fentanyl. The driver, 32-year-old Joshua Yousefivand of Redondo Beach, who is on probation, was arrested on multiple drug and firearm charges and booked into Orange County Jail.
