Lifestyle, Diet, and Health Changes May Play a Role in Early Hair Loss

Hair loss can happen for many reasons, and sometimes everyday habits play a bigger role than people realize. UCI Health dermatologist Dr. Natasha Mesinkovska explained that factors like diet, inflammation, illness, and rapid weight loss may all contribute to early or temporary hair shedding. Research during the COVID-19 pandemic also helped doctors better understand how inflammation affects the body and can lead to hair loss during and after infection. She added that some people using GLP-1 medications may notice temporary shedding if rapid weight loss impacts nutrition, and slowing the pace of weight loss may help.

Helping a Shy Cat Feel Safe: Simple Tips for Building Trust

A shy cat may take extra time to adjust to a new home, but with patience and the right environment, they can slowly build trust and feel safe. Creating a calm, low-pressure space helps timid cats come out of their shell at their own pace.

  • Create cozy hideaways: Give your cat safe spaces like A-frame beds, high-sided donut beds, or even a cardboard box turned on its side where they can rest, observe, and feel protected.

  • Let them approach you first: Avoid forcing attention or trying to rush bonding. Allow your cat to decide when they are ready to interact so trust can grow naturally.

  • Use treats and rewards: Positive reinforcement helps build confidence. Reward small progress, like stepping into the room, coming closer, or showing curiosity. Clicker training can also be helpful.

  • Try interactive wand toys: Fishing pole-style toys let your cat play from a comfortable distance, helping them stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be patient and consistent: Shy cats often need time. Staying calm, gentle, and predictable helps them feel secure and more comfortable over time.
