Tammy Kim Withdraws from Irvine City Council Race Amid Residency Dispute

Former Irvine Councilwoman Tammy Kim withdrew from the race for the open City Council seat in District 5 on Friday, shortly before an Orange County Superior Court judge was expected to rule on her eligibility. Kim’s candidacy was challenged due to concerns about her residency, as she owned a condominium in District 3 while stating that she was renting in District 5. The lawsuit, filed by former mayoral candidate Ron Scolesdang, alleged that Kim primarily resided at her owned property rather than her rental. Kim cited ongoing scrutiny and personal considerations as reasons for her withdrawal, stating that she no longer wished to pursue the position. With her departure, the race now includes former Councilman Anthony Kuo, PR consultant Betty Martinez Franco, and HOA board member Dana Cornelius.

Take Charge of Your Heart Health: Key Questions Every Woman Should Ask

Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 health risk for women? The good news is that being proactive and asking the right questions can make a huge difference! UCI Health experts encourage women to speak up during doctor visits and take charge of their heart health. A little preparation goes a long way—so jot down your concerns before your appointment to make the most of your time with your doctor.
Important Questions to Ask Your Doctor:
What is my risk of heart disease based on my family history and personal risk factors?
What can I do to keep my heart healthy and prevent disease?
What tests should I get if I have symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, jaw pain, nausea, or fatigue?
Are there any tests that can catch heart disease early?
If I plan to have a baby, how will my heart health affect my pregnancy?
What resources can help me quit smoking (if needed)?
Your doctor is there to help, so don’t be afraid to ask questions! Taking an active role in your health today can lead to a stronger heart and a healthier future.

Planting for Preservation: IRC’s Seeding Day Success

Irvine Ranch Conservancy’s Staff Seeding Day at the Native Seed Farm was a success, bringing together staff from all departments to aid in restoration efforts.
The team planted nine native plant species to support future restoration projects at Bommer Canyon, Irvine Ranch Open Space, and Chino Hills State Park.
The farm uses seed bulking techniques to maximize seed production with minimal disruption to wildlands.
IRC invites the community to participate in upcoming volunteer events in February, offering a hands-on way to contribute to conservation efforts.

Dog Walking 101: Tips for a Safe & Enjoyable Stroll

Take your pup for a walk and enjoy the fresh air! Keep these tips in mind for a safe and enjoyable outing:
Use the right gear – A sturdy leash and a comfortable collar or harness work best. Irvine has a 6-foot leash law, so avoid retractable leashes for safety. A front-clip harness can help with control if your dog pulls.
Keep a relaxed grip – Allow your dog to sniff and explore, but shorten the leash when needed to avoid other dogs or people.
Use positive reinforcement – Reward good leash manners with treats or praise to encourage good behavior.

Middle blocker Maxim Grigoriev contributed nine kills, three aces, and three block assists. Despite Concordia leading in blocks (9-7), UCI out-dug them 44-31. Irvine Boys Basketball Clinches First League Title Since 1991

Irvine High School boys basketball clinched their first league title since 1991 with a thrilling 65-60 double-overtime victory over Northwood in the Pacific Coast League championship at Portola. Led by Cooper Stearns' 28 points and 16 rebounds, along with his younger brother Holden Stearns' clutch 19 points and five 3-pointers, Irvine secured the win and extended their 19-game winning streak heading into CIF playoffs. The game was a battle, with Northwood leading early and forcing overtime after a late three by Logan Barbee. In double OT, key defensive plays and late free throws by Cooper Stearns sealed the victory. Coach Harry Meussner praised his staff and players, highlighting the team's resilience and unity.
