Spot the Signs: Protecting Pets from Heat Stroke

On warm days, our furry friends can overheat much faster than we realize. Unlike people, dogs can’t sweat to cool down; they rely mostly on panting. When their body temperature rises too high, it can quickly turn into heat stroke—a serious, sometimes life-threatening emergency. Here are some warning signs and tips for care.
Symptoms:
Rapid, heavy panting
Sticky or unusual gum color
Weakness, confusion, or collapse
Seizures in severe cases
Care Tips:
Move your dog into a shaded, cool spot
Pour cool (not cold) water on head, belly, and paws
Use a fan or AC to help cooling
Do not cover with wet towels or use ice
Get immediate veterinary care for proper treatment
