OluKai's new store at Irvine Spectrum Center offers an immersive shopping experience reminiscent of a Hawaiian beach house. Vice President Kerry Konrady highlights the comfort of their sandals, designed to mimic the feeling of bare feet in wet sand. Founded in Irvine in 2005, OluKai's sandals were previously available only in Hawaii or select retailers. The new Irvine store, their first mainland location, showcases a range of products and serves as a hub for events. Co-founder Bill Worthington's vision of a premium, comfortable, and stylish sandal has driven the brand's success, and the store embodies the aloha spirit with its unique shopping environment.

The Habit Burger Grill's Double Charburger Wins Best Fast-Food Burger; Loyalty Members Get Free Burgers

The Habit Burger Grillβs Double Charburger was recently named the best fast-food burger in a USA Today poll. To celebrate, the chain offers its loyalty members a free Double Charburger with a $5 minimum purchase, available automatically in rewards accounts from July 19-30. New members can register until Sept. 18 to access the deal. The Double Charburger features two chargrilled beef patties, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo on a toasted bun. Habitβs tempura green beans, chicken club, and roasted garlic cauliflower also won awards for best side dish, chicken sandwich, and healthful innovations. Founded in Santa Barbara in 1969, The Habit Burger Grill now has 380 locations across 14 states and internationally.

Teens and tweens can join in-person craft sessions at Irvine Heritage Park Library every Monday in July at 2 PM. Enjoy Tiny Treats and Tiny Art (July 22), and Cyanotype Printing (July 29). These sessions are for ages 12 and up, with no registration required, but supplies are limited.

UC Irvine Receives Historic $50 Million Gift from Joe C. Wen Family to Boost Public Health and Cardiovascular Research

UC Irvine received a $50 million donation from Joe C. Wen and his family, the largest ever from a donor under 50 and the first to name a University of California school after a Taiwanese American. The gift will support the newly established Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health and enhance cardiovascular research and care at UCI. This follows a $20 million donation in 2022. The funds will create endowments to boost UCIβs public health and cardiology programs, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in healthcare. The UC Board of Regents approved renaming UCIβs public health program to honor the Wen family's generosity.

UC Irvine Grad Josh Farmer to Represent U.S. at 2024 Thorpe Cup in Germany

UC Irvine alumnus Josh Farmer will represent the U.S. at the 2024 Thorpe Cup in Wetzlar, Germany, on July 20-21. The Thorpe Cup is a track and field event where the U.S. and Germany compete in decathlon and heptathlon. Farmer, a three-time All-American, was selected based on his performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He joins a team that includes Sam Black, Ryan Talbot, Denim Rogers, Hunter Jones, Daniel Spencer, and Hakim McMorris. Farmer, who recently graduated with a master's in demographic and social analysis, holds a personal record of 7,703 points in the decathlon. The Thorpe Cup decathlon events will take place over two days, starting on July 20 with the 100m and concluding on July 21 with the 1500m.

Women's volleyball head coach Ashlie Hain praised the updated facility for maintaining its historic charm and enhancing the home court advantage.

Rusty Van Cleave Named New Boys' Basketball Coach at Beckman High

Veteran coach Rusty Van Cleave has been named the new boys' basketball coach at Beckman High School, replacing Lucas Armstrong, who stepped down due to work commitments. Armstrong led Beckman to a 14-14 record last season and 14-11 the previous year. Van Cleave, known for his successful tenures at Foothill, Ocean View, and Mission Viejo, will officially take over after the summer program concludes.
