UC Irvine Receives $1.4M NIH Grant for Alzheimer's Research Training Program
The UC Irvine Center for Neural Circuit Mapping has received a $1.4 million NIH grant to establish a training program for Alzheimer's disease research. Over five years, the program will support promising projects for clinical translation. An interdisciplinary team of 29 faculty members will mentor pre- and postdoctoral fellows, using advanced techniques to improve the understanding of brain disorders through neural circuit mapping. The focus will be on developing new tools and methods for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer's and other dementias. The program aims to address age-related cognitive impairments, a significant health and socioeconomic issue. Leading the program are principal investigator Xiangmin Xu and co-principal investigator Todd Holmes.
