Irvine City Council Considers Placing Oak Creek Redevelopment on Upcoming Ballot

Irvine city leaders are exploring a proposal to replace the Oak Creek Golf Club—long designated as open space—with a new 3,100-unit housing development, school, and parks.
This area was protected by voters in 1988 under a ballot initiative promoting permanent open space, but the city attorney says the council has the legal right to amend the general plan without voter input.
Still, many residents and some councilmembers argue that voters should decide whether to lift the preservation.
On June 24, the council unanimously approved moving forward with a yearlong study of the proposal.
Most public commenters opposed the plan, citing concerns over traffic, loss of green space, and setting a precedent that could jeopardize other protected lands. The council may soon consider placing the matter on a future ballot.

Two Arrested in Irvine Storage Unit Burglary; Stolen Property Recovered

Irvine Police investigated a burglary at a storage unit on Red Hill Ave. and arrested two Santa Ana residents—Fernando Santeros, 41, and Alberto Garcia Moran, 34—on multiple charges including burglary and receiving stolen property. Santeros was arrested near Halladay St. and Pine St. in Santa Ana, while Moran was apprehended on the 17600 block of Armstrong Ave. in Irvine.
To better secure your storage unit, police advise using unmarked boxes, keeping a photo inventory, limiting how long your unit is open, checking it regularly, and using a quality disc lock.
