Tragic Collision: Irvine Cyclist Passes Away Weeks After Accident on MacArthur

On August 1, the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a traffic collision on MacArthur over the I-405 freeway involving Scott Andrew Morris of Irvine. Morris, who was riding a bike, made a sudden left turn into a passing vehicle, resulting in a moderate head injury. He was transported to a hospital but passed away on August 22. Morris was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. IPD's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos.

Vegetation Fire in Irvine: Road Closures Near MacArthur and Fairchild

Irvine PD is assisting with a vegetation fire near MacArthur and Fairchild. No structures are threatened.

Road closures:

  • Southbound MacArthur at Fairchild

  • Northbound MacArthur at University (traffic diverted to University)

  • University on-ramp to Northbound MacArthur

  • Eastbound Fairchild traffic is diverted to Northbound MacArthur

  • The on-ramp to Southbound MacArthur remains open

New research suggests that regular aspirin use may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, especially in individuals with lifestyle risk factors like smoking or obesity. However, their risk remains higher than those with the healthiest lifestyles, who have a low risk regardless of aspirin use. This underscores the significance of diet and lifestyle changes in preventing colorectal cancer, according to UCI Health colorectal surgeon Dr. Jason A. Zell.

UCI Women's Volleyball Gear Up for 2024 Season with Strong Lineup and Home Court Advantage

With the 2024 season just a week away, here are five key highlights for the Anteaters: Junior libero Campbell Jensen is a defensive powerhouse, averaging 3.93 digs per set last season, while setter Nicole Feliciano, last year’s Big West Freshman of the Year, impresses with 7.79 assists per set. Grad students Hunter Riedl and Ella Gardiner return, bringing strong offensive and blocking stats. USC transfer Katie Smith adds firepower to the offense. UC Irvine will host the Big West Championship at the Bren Events Center this November, marking a significant home court advantage.

UC Irvine Women's Golf Unveils 2024-25 Schedule, Highlights Key Players and Events

UC Irvine women's golf announced its 2024-25 schedule, which includes three new tournaments. The season kicks off with the Wolverine Invitational at Talons Cove Golf Course in Utah, followed by the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Colorado. The team will also participate in the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, Rainbow Wahine Invitational, and a dual match with UC Riverside. New additions include the Olympic Club Invitational in San Francisco. The Anteaters will compete in the Big West Championship at the Spanish Trail Country Club in April, aiming for a conference title and NCAA Regionals bid.

Crean Lutheran Football Dominates Mullen Catholic 35-12 in First Out-of-State Game

Crean Lutheran High School's football team secured a 35-12 victory over Mullen Catholic in Denver, marking their first out-of-state game. Quarterback Caden Jones led the team with 262 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and a rushing touchdown. Caleb Bey contributed 87 rushing yards, while Taurian Nash added two rushing touchdowns. Dillon Booth and Drew Deese were the top receivers, with Deese and Ben Byszewski catching touchdown passes. The defense, led by Mason McCullough and Ryder Barnes, shut down the Mustangs, while All-Orange County kicker Connor Stephens was flawless on special teams. The offensive line was crucial in the win, providing strong protection and opening up running lanes.
