Boost Your Sleep Quality: Try These 11 Sleep-Promoting Foods and Tips

Quality sleep is crucial for health, enhancing cognitive function, mood, heart health, metabolism, and infection resistance. Adults need at least 7 hours of sleep, though this varies by age. If you feel tired despite adequate sleep, you might be sleep-deprived.

  • A nutrient-rich diet with foods like bananas, red cherry juice, dairy products, nuts, herbal tea, broccoli, boiled eggs, kiwi, avocados, pineapples, and oatmeal can promote better sleep.

  • Additionally, maintain a consistent sleep schedule, create a calming sleep environment, avoid caffeine and heavy meals before bed, and stay active during the day.

  • If sleep issues persist, consult Family Care Centers Medical Group for professional assistance at their urgent care locations in Irvine, Fountain Valley, or Costa Mesa.

Discover Top Birdwatching Spots in Orange County

Birding in Orange County offers over 500 species to observe across beaches, hills, parks, and backyards.

  • Key sites include Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, and Upper Newport Bay for shorebirds and waterfowl. Inland, Casper’s Wilderness Park and Irvine Regional Park are great for songbirds and raptors.

  • Urban parks like Huntington Beach Central Park and Laguna Niguel Regional Park also provide diverse birdwatching opportunities.

  • Check each location's website for current fees and safety guidelines. Use eBird for the latest sightings and visit the Sea and Sage Accessible Birding page for accessibility info. Birding is best enjoyed with a buddy and binoculars!

Pet Safety Guide: Recognize and Avoid Toxic Blue-Green Algae in Your Area

With heat waves causing an increase in blue-green algae in lakes, ponds, and standing water, the risk to pets has risen. This toxic algae can be fatal if ingested.

  • To prevent accidental poisoning, monitor pets around water closely.

  • If exposure is suspected, seek emergency veterinary care immediately and contact ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.

  • Signs of exposure include vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and difficulty breathing.

  • Reduce risk by keeping dogs on leashes, looking for hazard signs, researching algae in your area, and treating water to prevent blooms.

In men's surfing, Kauli Vaast of French Polynesia claimed gold, beating Australia's Jack Robinson. Bronze medals went to Gabriel Medina of Brazil and Johanne Defay of France. The event, marked by cheering crowds and viral moments, showcased surfing's global appeal and growth.
