Three New Asian Restaurants Bring Fresh Flavors to Irvine’s Food Scene

Irvine’s dining scene just got even more diverse with three new Asian eateries offering standout flavors.

  • So Gong Dong Tofu (SGD) has opened at Los Olivos Marketplace, serving up customizable bowls of Korean soondubu jjigae (silky tofu stew) alongside barbecue beef short ribs.

  • Silverlake Ramen, now at Crossroads in addition to Spectrum, brings bold ramen creations like garlic truffle and “Shoyu on Fire,” plus handmade gyoza and churros for dessert.

  • Siam Station at Cypress Village rounds out the trio with Thai street-style dishes, from crispy E-San sausage to jumbo crab Pad Thai, spicy kapow stir-fry, and savory roast duck curry.

Free Grocery Food Box Available for Irvine Residents Sept. 11

Irvine residents can pick up a free 30-lb grocery box on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 9 AM at Heritage Park Community Center (14301 Yale Ave).

  • The box includes fresh produce, pantry staples, and more.

CHOC Pediatric Urgent Care Hosts Grand Opening at Oak Creek - Sep 6

CHOC is hosting a community open house to celebrate the grand opening of its new Pediatric Urgent Care at Oak Creek Shopping Center on Saturday, September 6, from 8:30–11:30 AM. Families are invited to tour the facility, meet Choco Bear, and enjoy children’s activities.

Join a Wildflower Walk at Irvine’s Native Seed Farm – Sept. 6

On Saturday, September 6, (12:00–1:30 PM), join the Wildflower Walk at the Native Seed Farm. Enjoy a guided stroll along farm roads to see wildflowers, grasses, and pollinators in action while learning why these plants are grown. The walk covers about 1 mile with minimal elevation.

Join Family Craft Time at University Park Library – Sept. 6

Bring the whole family to Family Craft Time at University Park Library on Saturday, September 6, from 10 AM–1 PM. Drop in for hands-on crafting fun—supplies are provided! Open to all ages, no registration required, but space is limited and first-come, first-served.

We will resume with the high school music calendar events when the schedule is available for the fall semester.

19 Pets Find Homes in Irvine Adoptions

From August 25–31, 19 pets found new homes, including:

  • 6 dogs (Buttercup, Cash, Goliath, Hazy, Julius, Leia)

  • 12 cats (Akina, Bean, Cumin, Cupcake, Dill, Flower, Gaia, Ireland, Noor, Saffron, Suki, Zoey)

  • and 1 guinea pig (Leche)

  • In addition, 1 bird (Chicken) was sent to rescue, and 4 dogs were reunited with their owners.

UC Irvine Men’s Soccer Stays Perfect With 3-0 Shutout of North Florida

UC Irvine men’s soccer stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 win over North Florida at Anteater Stadium.

  • Isaiahs Gutierrez scored in the first half, Misael Gonzalez Lopez converted a penalty, and Travis Babineau added a rebound goal.

  • Goalkeeper Joe O’Shaughnessy secured his third straight shutout with four saves.

  • Hunny Yoo and Marcus Lee contributed key assists.

  • The Anteaters, now 3-0, host New Hampshire on Friday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m.

Portola Tops Irvine 7-0 in Football Rivalry Match

Portola defeated Irvine 7-0 in a defensive battle, sealed by Timothy Grettenberg’s late rushing touchdown and Jamal Abdelkarim’s game-ending interception.

  • The Bulldogs relied on a strong run game (162 yards) and a dominant defense that forced five turnovers, while their offensive line allowed no sacks.

  • Irvine managed 112 yards and lost two fumbles, unable to capitalize on its own defensive stops.

  • Both teams move to 1-1, with Portola facing Cerritos next and Irvine meeting Woodbridge.

Two Arrested at Spectrum for Weapons, Theft, and Narcotics

Irvine Police officers at Spectrum detained two men after spotting a suspicious car linked to prior thefts and narcotics cases.

  • A search uncovered drug paraphernalia, stolen property, burglary tools, IDs belonging to others, and concealed weapons including daggers and pepper spray.

  • The suspects, Gerson Vargas (32, Norwalk) and Diego Alberto Franco (29, Santa Ana), were arrested and booked on multiple felony charges.
