Brain Food Made Tasty: Frittata and Flatbread for a Sharp Mind

The MIND diet blends elements of the Mediterranean and DASH diets to support brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Research suggests it may lower Alzheimerโs risk by over 50% with consistent practice. This approach encourages nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, berries, whole grains, and healthy fats while limiting processed and high-saturated-fat items. Two recipes from UCI Healthโs teaching kitchen showcase how this can be both nutritious and enjoyable:
Spinach & White Bean Frittata
Eggs provide choline and B12 for memory and mood support
Spinach adds folate and antioxidants to help reduce brain inflammation
White beans offer magnesium and plant-based protein for sustained energy
Turmeric and tomatoes contribute brain-friendly antioxidants
Socca with Roasted Vegetables & Chermoula
Made with chickpea flour, rich in fiber and folate
Roasted vegetables supply vitamins and protective compounds
Chermoula adds flavor with herbs, spices, and citrus known for anti-inflammatory properties
Optional feta includes calcium and B12 for nerve function

Sharing the Trail: How to Hike Safely with Wildlife in Mind

As temperatures rise, rattlesnakes become more active, making it essential to hike cautiously and respectfully through their natural habitat.
To stay safe, stick to marked trails, watch your step and hand placements, and avoid reaching into brush, logs, or rocky areas.
