Support Local Families by Volunteering with Irvine's Food Box Distribution

Love Irvine is inviting volunteers to support the City of Irvine's Food Box Distribution Program, which provides free grocery boxes to community members experiencing food insecurity. Whether you can help set up, organize, or distribute food boxes, your time and support can make a meaningful difference for local families.

  • Distribute Food Boxes: Second Thursday of each month, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.

  • Set Up & Organize: Last Wednesday of each month, 8:30–10:30 a.m.

  • Additional Opportunities: Extra volunteer shifts are available in August.

  • Get Involved: Register for a volunteer shift here

Join OC Parks for a free outdoor movie night at Irvine Regional Park on Friday, August 14, featuring Kung Fu Panda 4. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with character meet-and-greets, DJ-led games, photo opportunities, and other family-friendly activities before the movie starts at sunset. Bring your family, friends, blankets, or picnic supplies and enjoy an evening under the stars.

The recommendations come from Irvine resident and artist Jerrod Maruyama, who shared some of his go-to places for great food and drinks.

  • BLK DOT COFFEE – Maruyama recommends the Iced LVTM (Light Vietnamese Coffee) and the Mint Chocolate VTM

  • LITTLE SISTER – He suggests trying the Shaky Shaky Beef and the Black Rice, a generous seafood dish that's ideal for sharing.

  • BURNT CRUMBS – The Fluffy Soufflé Pancakes are his must-order, and he recommends visiting with a friend so you can share multiple dishes.

  • ROOSTER & RICE – His favorite order is The Original Thai-style chicken and rice, along with Larb Popcorn Chicken and crispy chicken skins for sharing.

Broadway and film actor Duffy Hudson will bring the world of Dr. Seuss to life during a free, interactive performance at University Park Library on Thursday, July 30, from 6–7 p.m. Families can enjoy favorite Dr. Seuss stories, fun surprises, magic tricks, and plenty of laughs.

UCI Health Celebrates Opening of New Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital

UCI Health recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting for its new UCI Health – Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital, which is expected to welcome patients by the end of July. The new four-story, 52-bed hospital will provide specialized care for people recovering from strokes, traumatic injuries, major surgeries, spinal cord injuries, and other serious medical conditions. The facility features private patient rooms, advanced rehabilitation technology, therapy gyms, and practice spaces that help patients regain strength and everyday living skills. As part of Orange County's only academic health system, the hospital will also support research to improve rehabilitation treatments and patient care.

Join OC Parks for a morning of helping care for the natural beauty of Peters Canyon Regional Park on Saturday, August 8, from 7:30–9:30 a.m. Volunteers are invited to assist with weeding, watering, and planting to support the park's native plants and habitat.

Back to the Future Comes to Great Park Live with Pacific Symphony on August 1

Travel back in time with Back to the Future at Pacific Symphony's SummerFest on Saturday, August 1, at 8 p.m. at Great Park Live in Irvine. Enjoy a screening of the beloved 1985 film while the Pacific Symphony performs Alan Silvestri's iconic score live, conducted by Scott Terrell. The special performance also includes about 20 minutes of new music composed by Silvestri exclusively for the live orchestral presentation.

Share Your Pet's Best Photo and Help Animals in Need Starting August 1

The Irvine Animal Care Center's annual Photo Fundraiser returns August 1–31, giving pet owners the chance to submit photos of their pets for the 2027 wall calendar while supporting programs that help animals in need. Photo submissions cost $25, votes are $1 each, and every eligible photo with at least five votes will appear in the calendar. The top 13 vote-getters will receive a full-page feature, and participants will receive one complimentary calendar. Proceeds benefit the center's Enhanced Care, Foster Care, and Third Chance for Pets programs, which provide medical treatment, foster homes, and lifesaving support for adoptable animals.

UC Irvine Women's Track Earns Sixth Straight USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honor

UC Irvine's women's track & field team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for the sixth straight year after maintaining a team GPA of at least 3.0, while eight Anteaters received individual All-Academic recognition for their success in both the classroom and NCAA competition.

Irvine Police Seek Help Identifying Suspect in Tesla Vandalism Cases

The Irvine Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying a man believed to be responsible for a series of Tesla vandalism incidents. Police say the suspect allegedly spray-painted nine Teslas in a parking structure near Michelson and Carlson on July 23 and may be connected to four other incidents earlier in the week, for a total of 13 vandalized vehicles. Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact Detective Noelle at [email protected].
