The project, valued at approximately $4.14 million, includes significant upgrades such as a new entry area, expanded lounging and picnic spaces, improved restrooms, and the replacement of diving stands. While the swim club and small playground will be closed during construction, nearby pools and other recreational facilities will remain open.
Don't Let the Heat Get You Down: Simple Tips to Protect Your Mood and Health
Extreme heat can negatively affect mood, causing feelings of tiredness, frustration, and irritability, according to UCI Health expert Dr. Jose Mayorga. A Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that 62% of people experience mood changes due to high temperatures, with many reporting feelings of fatigue, anger, anxiety, or confusion. Dr. Mayorga explains that the body's struggle to find comfort in extreme heat can lower our tolerance for discomfort, leading to irritability.
To prevent heat-related issues, he suggests staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, staying indoors with air conditioning, following weather updates, and eating a balanced diet.
Heat Advisory Extended for Irvine: IUSD Adjusts Outdoor Activities for Student Safety
The National Weather Service has extended a heat advisory for Orange County, including Irvine, until 8 PM today.
IUSD schools will adjust outdoor activities with indoor PE, reduced outdoor intensity, and guidelines to stay shaded and hydrated.
Athletic activities will follow the countyโs โHot Weather Guidelines.โ Parents are encouraged to remind students to drink water and wear light clothing, sunscreen, and hats.
All IUSD schools have air-conditioning to maintain a comfortable environment.
Contact your childโs school directly for specific questions.
Things to Know About Cortisol and Your Skin
"Cortisol face" is a term circulating on social media, but UCI Health endocrinologist Dr. Mehboob Hussain explains that excess cortisol is rarely the cause of puffy eyes, face, or acne.
While cortisol, the "stress hormone," is vital for bodily functions like metabolism and inflammation control, prolonged high levels can be harmful, potentially leading to conditions like Cushing syndrome, diabetes, or metabolic issues.
High cortisol is usually linked to medical treatments rather than stress. To maintain healthy cortisol levels, focus on sleep, exercise, a nutritious diet, and stress management. Consult a doctor if concerned.
Smart Watering: How to Keep Your Plants Hydrated Without Waste
With the heat in full swing, keeping your yard hydrated efficiently is key. Water Efficiency Specialist Juan Garcia suggests hand-watering as the best approach. Using a hose nozzle helps target plants directly, minimizing waste. He advises watering each plant in rounds, circling back two or three times to ensure water penetrates deeply into the roots.
Six-Foot Wings and Super Smell: How Turkey Vultures Help Clean OC's Ecosystem
Celebrating Vulture in Irvine! In Orange County, the Turkey vulture is the most common species, known for its impressive six-foot wingspan and exceptional sense of smell, which helps them find carrion from miles away. These birds play a vital role in keeping the environment clean by scavenging and recycling nutrients.

Quarterback Khoa Bui passed for 129 yards and two touchdowns, while Brandon Figueroa led the rushing attack. Woodbridge struggled offensively, missing key players like starting QB Caden Jones.
