Irvine Considers Nature Park Plan for Part of Oak Creek Golf Course

Irvine City Council approved a zoning change that could allow part of the privately owned Oak Creek Golf Club to be transformed into a 50-acre nature park, while keeping the land’s preservation designation unchanged. The conceptual plan includes walking paths and trail connections linking to Jeffrey Open Space Trail, Limestone Canyon, and Quail Hill Open Space Preserve. Officials emphasized the vote does not approve housing development, but many residents remain concerned because the remaining land could eventually be used for thousands of homes, reducing the current 176 acres of open space. Mayor Larry Agran said any future development proposal would require a public vote and a full Environmental Impact Report before moving forward.
IVC’s New Natural Sciences Center Gives STEM Students a Place to Study and Connect

Irvine Valley College’s new Natural Sciences Center, which opened in February, is giving STEM students a dedicated space to study, connect, and access free tutoring.
Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the center supports students in subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and more through drop-in tutoring, workshops, and club activities.
Second-year student Hinanui Swider says the center has helped her both as a biology student and as a chemistry tutor helping others succeed.
Faculty leaders say the goal is to create both academic support and a stronger sense of belonging for commuter students, with future plans for guest speakers, STEM transfer guidance, and expanded space as demand continues to grow.

Irvine PD Addresses Illegal E-Motorcycle Use by Minors
![]() | ![]() |
The Irvine Police Department is reminding families that illegal e-motorcycles, especially those capable of going over 20 mph on throttle alone and sometimes reaching speeds above 75 mph, are not toys and can create serious safety risks. If a child riding one of these devices causes injury, it can lead to real legal consequences. Irvine PD encourages parents to review local regulations and help ensure young riders stay safe and follow the law.

Seasonal Allergies Are Back: Common Symptoms and When to Seek Care

Spring is here, and for many people that also means seasonal allergies are in full swing.
Sneezing, dry cough, runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and feeling tired or run down are all common symptoms affecting nearly 50 million Americans each year.
Antibiotics usually are not needed, but simple steps like nasal rinses, showering after being outside, using an air purifier, getting enough vitamin D, or using over-the-counter antihistamines can help bring relief.
If symptoms last longer than a week or come with headache, worsening sinus pressure, dark nasal discharge, dizziness, or fever, it may be a good idea to visit urgent care for a closer look.

Irvine Police Arrest Suspect After Facebook Marketplace iPad Robbery

An Irvine Police Department investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Darrion Dajuan Taylor of Ontario after a Facebook Marketplace iPad sale at Woodbury Town Center turned into a robbery on March 28. Police said the suspect grabbed the iPad during the meetup and fled, but detectives later located and arrested him for robbery. A firearm was also found during a search of his vehicle, and the stolen iPad was returned to the victim.
Irvine PD encourages residents to use its 24/7 monitored e-commerce exchange zone in the police department parking lot for safer and more secure online buying and selling transactions.
