Furry Friends Find Love: Adoptions and Happy Reunions at Irvine Animals

Between January 20–26, 2025, 1 dog (Lily), 6 cats (Boba, Dorothy, Lido, Obi, Rose, Serena), and 2 hamsters (Ariel, Einstein) were adopted. Additionally, 3 dogs (Finneas, Molly, Pocky) were sent to rescue, and 8 dogs were reunited with their owners. Visit irvineanimals.org/adopt for adoption info and hours.

UC Irvine Men's Basketball Defeats Hawai'i 71-55 for 21st Straight Home Win

UC Irvine secured a 71-55 victory over Hawai'i at the Bren Events Center, marking their 21st consecutive home win and improving to 18-3 overall. Myles Che led with 17 points, including two second-half three-pointers, and five assists. Kyle Evans scored 12 bench points on perfect shooting and set a personal best with four blocks. Devin Tillis recorded his second straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Anteaters' strong defense limited Hawai'i to 55 points, with Justin Hohn adding 13 points and five assists. UCI next faces Long Beach State on Jan. 30 at 7 PM.

Irvine Valley Baseball Dominates LBCC with 10-2 Victory

Irvine Valley baseball rebounded from a home opener loss with a dominant 10-2 win over Long Beach City on Saturday. The team tallied 17 hits, highlighted by standout performances from Connor Gomez, Kade Murray, and Jake Amundson, contributing to a 10-0 lead by the fifth inning. Sophomore Tyler Eastham led the pitching with five shutout innings, seven strikeouts, and no runs allowed, supported by Jackson Chastain's three scoreless innings. The Lasers hit the road next week, facing West LA, Compton, and Ventura.

Crean Lutheran Girls Basketball Nears Crestview Title with 44-30 Win Over El Dorado

Crean Lutheran High School’s girls basketball team moved closer to clinching the Crestview League title with a 44-30 home win over El Dorado, improving their league record to 5-0 (20-4 overall). Elise Randolph and Sydnee Norwood led with 10 points each, while Stacy Echtenkamp and Micaela Hanning added seven points apiece. Coach Kyle Rouse praised the team’s strong defensive first half, holding El Dorado to six points, but noted the need for greater consistency as they prepare to face Esperanza at home.

Proposition 36 introduced stricter laws for repeat offenders. Certain misdemeanor theft and drug offenses are now classified as felonies for individuals with multiple prior theft convictions. Petty theft or shoplifting could result in felony charges under these new regulations.
