Irvine’s Jaide Boston Making Her Mark on the National Track Scene

At just 12 years old, Irvine native Jaide Boston is emerging as a promising young track athlete. An eight-time All-American Junior Olympian specializing in the 400m and 800m, Jaide recently helped her Black Lightning relay team win the 4x400m at the USATF National Junior Olympics with a national-leading time, followed by a third-place finish at the AAU Junior Olympics. She is also entering seventh grade at Sierra Vista Middle School, balancing academics with training three to four days a week. Jaide hopes to add the 200m to her events and, looking ahead, dreams of competing for USC and becoming a neurologist.
Free Solarize Irvine Workshop Offers Guidance on Solar, Batteries and Home Energy Upgrades

Irvine homeowners interested in solar and clean-energy upgrades can attend a free Solarize Irvine Zoom workshop on Wednesday, September 2, from 7–8:15 p.m. Hosted by nonprofit OC Goes Solar in partnership with the City of Irvine, the workshop will cover solar panels, battery storage, prepaid lease options offering potential upfront savings of 30% or more, Solarize Irvine group discounts, EV charging, heat pumps, and tips for comparing quotes. Attendees can also meet participating 2026 solar contractors and learn about their options. The event is free and open to the public.

My Hero Academia in Concert comes to Segerstrom Hall on Tuesday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m., celebrating 10 years of the popular anime with a 15-piece live band performing Yuki Hayashi’s score alongside visuals highlighting memorable moments from all eight seasons.

Pick Up Affordable Reads for the Family at Heritage Park Library’s Aug. 29 Book Sale

The Friends of the Heritage Park Library will host a book sale Saturday, August 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. Shoppers can pick up:
five children’s books for $1
three adult paperbacks for $1
two hardcover books for $1
The sale is cash only, and is an affordable way to stock up on books while supporting the library.

Learn How to Safely Wear and Care for Contact Lenses at Free UCI Health Webinar

UCI Health is hosting a free virtual community lecture on contact lenses on Tuesday, September 1, from 7–8 p.m. Optometrist Joseph Bui, OD, of the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute will discuss how to properly wear, care for and choose contact lenses, along with answers to common questions. The presentation will be held on Zoom and is open to the community.

Help Care for Quail Hill’s Native Plants at September Stewardship Event

Join the City of Irvine for a stewardship morning at Quail Hill Loop Trail on Friday, September 11, from 9 a.m.–noon. Volunteers will help water, weed, and maintain seedlings and native plants along the one-mile trail as part of an ongoing habitat enhancement project.

Modern Makers Mart Returns to Woodbury Town Center September 12–13

The Modern Makers Mart returns to Woodbury Town Center in Irvine on September 12–13 from 3–8:30 p.m. with a Dark Cottagecore-themed fall market. More than 55 local makers will offer handmade goods, accompanied by live music and family-friendly activities.

UCI Women’s Tennis Adds Transfer Montana Parkinson for 2026–27 Season
UC Irvine women’s tennis has added transfer Montana Parkinson for the 2026–27 season after two successful years at New Mexico State. Parkinson went 22-4 in singles last season, earned Conference USA All-Academic honors, and brings collegiate and junior-level experience to the Anteaters.

Irvine Police Recover Stolen Construction Tools, Arrest Suspect for Grand Theft

Irvine Police arrested a 59-year-old Anaheim man in connection with tools stolen from a contractor at the new Meridian Apartment construction site on Bryan. After noticing tools disappearing since January, the contractor began using electronic trackers and recently traced a missing tool to a storage facility in Orange. Crime Impact Unit detectives identified the renter and arrested him at the unit, where they recovered the stolen tools and several stolen cooktops valued at more than $2,500. The suspect was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of grand theft.
