Understanding Pneumonia: Recognize the Warning Signs and Seek Timely Medical Care

Pneumonia is a lung infection that can become serious without timely care. While mild cases might improve with rest, more severe symptoms—like high fever or breathing issues—need urgent medical attention. Family Care Centers in Irvine and Costa Mesa provide fast, expert pneumonia treatment every day, including holidays.

Key Facts:

  • Seek urgent care if you have:

    • Fever over 102°F

    • Shortness of breath or wheezing

    • Cough with brown or red mucus

  • Pneumonia symptoms to watch for:

    • Breathing difficulty

    • Wet cough

    • Fever and fatigue

    • Chest pain when coughing or breathing

  • Difference from bronchitis:

    • Pneumonia affects the lungs (often bacterial/viral); bronchitis affects large airways and is usually viral

    • Pneumonia may last longer and be more serious

  • Treatment options may include:

    • Oral or IV antibiotics (for bacterial infections)

    • Anti-inflammatory medications to manage symptoms

Masters of the Sky: The Secret Life of Irvine’s Red-Tailed Hawks

As raptor monitoring season kicks off with Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC), it’s the perfect time to appreciate the Red-tailed Hawk—an iconic bird of prey often seen soaring over the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks.

  • These adaptable hawks live year-round in California and are known for their keen hunting skills, unique courtship displays, and surprising lightness despite their large size.

  • With lifespans of over 30 years, they nest in tall trees or cliffs across snow-free areas of the state.

  • IRC volunteers help monitor their populations and protect nesting zones, playing a key role in conservation.

  • Keep an eye out for these majestic hawks on your next hike!
