Tardive Dyskinesia: The Hidden Risk of Antipsychotic Drugs

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a condition that remains underrecognized despite its significant impact on patients' lives. Often a side effect of commonly used medications, particularly antipsychotics, TD can cause distressing, involuntary movements that affect daily functioning and quality of life. According to Dr. Sanaz Attaripour Isfahani, a neurologist at UCI Health specializing in movement disorders, this condition impacts 20–50% of individuals taking neuroleptic drugs and can also be triggered by certain anti-nausea medications like metoclopramide.
Dr. Isfahani, who practices at UCI Health Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Services, is at the forefront of treating movement disorders with advanced approaches, including deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin injections. With a robust body of research and clinical expertise, she is dedicated to helping patients manage and overcome these challenges while advancing the understanding of neurological disorders.

Coyotes in Orange County: Wildlife Coexistence and Safety Tips

Coyotes, a common sight in Orange County, are medium-sized canines known for their adaptability and vital role in the ecosystem, preying on small animals and helping control local populations. They thrive in open spaces like the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks but face challenges such as habitat loss and urban conflicts. Coyotes are typically grayish-brown with reddish tints, weighing 25–45 pounds, and are active at dawn, dusk, and night in urban areas.
To coexist, secure pets, stay calm when encountering them, and make noise to deter them if necessary. Respect for these adaptable animals fosters harmony between humans and nature.

Boost Your Shy Cat’s Confidence with These Simple Playtime Tips

Have a shy cat that loves to hide? Tailored playtime can help them feel safe and confident.
Use a wand or feather toy to create a safe distance and engage them, even if they stay hidden under furniture.
Move slowly and let them “catch” their prey to build trust and reduce stress.
Playtime not only strengthens your bond but also helps your kitty come out of their shell.
