OCFA's CA-TF5 Deploys Type 1 Team for First Time in 16 Years to Aid Hurricane Milton Relief
![]() | ![]() |
The OCFA Urban Search & Rescue California Task Force 5 (CA-TF5) deployed 33 additional personnel as part of a Type 1 Team in response to Hurricane Milton, marking their first deployment of this kind since 2008. This team will join members already deployed for Hurricane Helene as a Type 3 Team. Departing from John Wayne Airport, they will rendezvous with the team in Georgia. Two Human Remains Detection (HRD) Canine Teams involved in the Hurricane Helene response will also transition to support Hurricane Milton. CA-TF5, one of 28 national FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Task Forces, is sponsored by OCFA, with personnel from OCFA, Anaheim Fire & Rescue, and Orange City Fire Department.
Maruchan Noodle Factory to Grow with New 227,400 Sq Ft Building in Irvine Spectrum

Maruchan, the well-known ramen noodle manufacturer, received approval from the Irvine City Council to expand its plant at 15800 Laguna Canyon Road in the Irvine Spectrum by adding a 227,400-square-foot industrial building. This decision overruled an appeal by the Supporters Alliance for Environmental Responsibility (SAFER), which argued that the city hadn't adequately analyzed the project's environmental impact. Irvine staff dismissed the appeal, stating SAFER lacked standing to challenge the project. Maruchan, currently operating six production lines with 482 employees, plans to add three new production lines and 191 employees. The new space will include light manufacturing, warehousing, and auxiliary offices. The Irvine Spectrum, a major business hub, houses 3,500 companies and a retail center with over 130 businesses.
National Pedestrian Safety Month: Slow Down to Save Lives

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office urges everyone to remember that speed is deadly.
A pedestrian struck at 32 mph has a 25% risk of death, which increases to 50% at 42 mph, and 75% at 50 mph.
Road safety is everyone's responsibilityโslow down, stay alert, and save lives.
