OCFA Responds to Irvine EV Fire with New Safety Technology

OCFA crews recently responded to an electric vehicle fire in Irvine, a type of incident that can be especially difficult because lithium-ion batteries can generate intense heat and trigger thermal runaway. To improve safety and response speed, firefighters are now using the Cobra water piercing nozzle, a specialized tool that delivers high-pressure cooling water directly into hard-to-reach battery compartments. This helps reduce heat more quickly, slow the spread of the fire, and allows crews to work from a safer distance.

Public Hearing Set for April 14 on Proposed Oak Creek Open Space Changes in Irvine

The Irvine City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. at Irvine City Hall to review a proposed zoning change requested by Irvine Company for the open space at Oak Creek Golf Club. The proposed change would offer an option for how open space is planned and maintained within Planning Area 12 (Oak Creek).

  • The Woodbridge Village Association encourages residents to attend the public hearing and share their perspectives on the proposed zone change.

  • The association shared its view that the proposal should not move forward as currently proposed, noting that Irvine voters approved Initiative Resolution 88-1 in 1988, which set aside large areas of land across the city as conservation and open space, including Oak Creek Golf Club.

New Study Highlights Electroacupuncture for Post-Cancer Brain Fog

A new UC Irvine-led study found that electroacupuncture may help improve cognitive function and reduce psychological distress in breast cancer survivors experiencing lingering symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, and emotional distress after treatment. In the 10-week pilot clinical trial, participants who received targeted electroacupuncture showed measurable improvements in attention, mental well-being, and brain-related biomarkers compared with the control group. Researchers say the early findings are promising and suggest this nondrug approach could become a helpful supportive care option, though larger studies are still needed to confirm the results.
