Trabuco Canyon Wildfire Forces Evacuations as Blaze Reaches 5,500 Acres
A wildfire, named the Airport Fire, ignited in Trabuco Canyon, Orange County, and has expanded to nearly 5,500 acres. The fire, which began around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, is being actively combated by ground and aerial firefighting teams.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for residents on Meander Lane and within the Robinson Ranch community, while voluntary evacuation warnings are in place for surrounding areas.
Several road closures have been implemented, and shelters for both residents and animals have been established.
Schools in the affected areas will remain closed on Tuesday.
The fire, deemed unintentional, was caused by Orange County Public Works employees while moving boulders to limit access to vegetation. The fire is currently spreading away from the evacuated Robinson Ranch area.
Two firefighters and one resident have been hospitalized due to heat-related injuries and smoke inhalation, respectively.
