OCP's Clean Energy Claims Under Fire: Massive Reserve Fund and Lack of Transparency Revealed

The Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) is under scrutiny for its questionable clean energy claims and is building a large reserve fund, potentially reaching $100 million, to protect against customer opt-outs. OCPA refuses to release CAISO settlement statements, which would reveal details about its energy purchases and the extent of renewable energy delivery. Accusations include OCPA hiding its use of non-renewable energy sources, greenwashing, and financial strategies that prioritize its reserve fund and credit rating over transparency. OCPA's practices include overcharging customers, misleading claims about local renewable projects, and questionable energy sourcing. There are calls for Irvineβs City Council to intervene and return the reserves to customers, with options for residents to opt-out of OCPA's services.
