Irvine Police Remind Residents to Keep Garage Doors Closed and Locked

Irvine Police Department is reminding residents to always close and lock their garage doors, even if stepping away for only a short time. Leaving garages or side doors open can give thieves quick access to valuable items like e-bikes, tools, and other belongings within seconds. Police say residents play an important role in preventing garage burglaries by taking simple steps to secure their homes and help deter opportunistic crime.

Stay Safe in the Sun: Tips to Prevent Sunburn Year-Round

Sunburns can happen year-round, even on cloudy days, and are caused by harmful UV rays that damage the skin and increase the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma. UVA rays contribute to premature aging, while UVB rays are the main cause of sunburns. To protect your skin:
Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily to protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Apply it generously to all exposed skin, including the ears, neck, hands, and feet, and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
Wear protective clothing such as long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses that block 99% of UV rays, and UPF-rated clothing when possible. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water can also help your body handle heat and sun exposure.
Children, babies, and pets need extra protection from direct sunlight. Keep infants under six months in the shade with lightweight clothing and hats, use sunscreen for older children.

Take a Relaxing Guided Morning Walk Around Quail Hill Loop on May 23

Join a slower-paced morning walk at Quail Hill Loop on Saturday, May 23, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and learn about the area’s natural history and ongoing habitat enhancement projects. This family-friendly, level-2 hike covers about 1 mile with minimal elevation gain.
