Oak Creek Golf Course Future Sparks Discussion Over Open Space Protections

Discussion around the future of Oak Creek Golf Course continues as residents and city leaders look more closely at longstanding open space protections connected to Irvine’s voter-approved Initiative Resolution 88-1 from 1988. While the land is privately owned, it is also subject to preservation requirements through the Conservation/Open Space Dedication Program, with approximately 176 acres designated as protected open space primarily for golf course use. Some have raised questions about whether zoning changes alone would be enough to address these existing obligations and suggest that a full Environmental Impact Report could help provide a clearer understanding of traffic, environmental, and community impacts before major decisions are made. The discussion also highlights the broader question of whether land originally intended for preservation can be converted to residential development, with some residents encouraging a transparent public process that allows the community to better understand and participate in significant decisions.
Community Support Needed: Bottled Water Donations Requested for Crime Survivors

Crime Survivors Resource Center is kindly asking for bottled water donations to help support survivors and families through support groups, healing programs, self-defense and safety trainings, classes, meetings, and more. Every bottle helps provide hydration, comfort, dignity, and compassion for those they serve. If you’re able to help, your donation can make a meaningful difference in someone’s healing journey.
