UCI Health: Guidance on the Safe Use of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen in Combination

Combining acetaminophen and ibuprofen can safely help manage pain, fever, and inflammation when used properly, according to UCI Health family medicine physician Dr. Roxann Engle. The most important factor is carefully tracking doses to prevent taking too much of either medication.

Key Tips:

  • Track every dose carefully to avoid accidentally repeating the same medication.

  • For children with fever: Alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen every three hours so one medication is always near peak effectiveness.

  • For ongoing or chronic pain: Taking both medications together may be easier to manage and follow consistently.

  • Avoid overuse: Safety depends on proper timing and correct dosing, not just the medications themselves.

Birding for All: Exploring Bommer Canyon Through Songs and Calls, Jan. 31

Join a sound-focused birding walk at Bommer Canyon Preserve on Saturday, Jan. 31, open to all experience levels and designed to be accessible, including for participants with visual impairments.

  • No prior birding experience is needed—just a curiosity for nature and a love of listening.
