Join Love Irvine’s Fifth Annual Citywide Serve Day, Nov. 8

Hundreds of Irvine residents will unite for Love Irvine’s fifth annual Citywide Serve Day on Nov. 8, starting at 7:30 a.m. at Woodbridge Village Center. Organizers expect 700+ volunteers to participate in over 35 community service projects, including family-friendly activities like food sorting and making rice sock warmers for shelter animals. The event offers a great opportunity for families to serve together.

Volunteers can sign up at LoveIrvine.org, and nonprofits can reach out to [email protected] to host projects.

Irvine Provides Food Resources for Residents Affected by CalFresh Delays

The City of Irvine is sharing several resources to help residents affected by CalFresh benefit delays. Families and individuals can access food support, free meals, and volunteer opportunities through the following programs and organizations.

Available Resources:

  • 🥫 Second Harvest Food Bank: Find a local pantry at feedoc.org/need-food

  • ☎️ 2-1-1 Orange County: Call 2-1-1 or visit 211oc.org for information on food banks and local distribution centers

  • 🍎 IUSD Free Meals: Free breakfast and lunch available at all Irvine Unified School District campuses

  • 📦 City of Irvine Grocery Food Box Program: Free monthly food boxes for residents in need — details at cityofirvine.org/foodbox

  • 💛 Volunteer or Donate: Support the community by donating to Second Harvest or volunteering for the City’s Grocery Food Box Program at cityofirvine.org/foodvolunteer

A wristband are on sale now at the Woodbridge Community Center. Wristbands are limited—get yours early for a cool day of winter fun!

National Child Safety Month: Keeping Kids Safe Together This November

November is National Child Safety and Protection Month, a time to come together as a community to keep children safe at home, on the road, and online. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office encourages families to stay aware, talk openly with kids about safety, and take simple steps—like using well-fitting car seats, securing household items, and practicing smart online habits.

If you ever need to report child abuse, help is available 24/7 at (714) 940-1000 or (800) 207-4464.

UCI Health Cancer Center Earns National Recognition for Exceptional Care and Research

UCI Health’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center has been named one of the nation’s top cancer programs by Becker’s Hospital Review. Recognized for its excellence in oncology leadership, advanced therapies, groundbreaking research, and clinical trials, the center stands out as Orange County’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

  • It provides personalized, multidisciplinary care supported by nurse navigators, dietitians, and holistic health specialists.

  • The center recently expanded with a new 225,000-square-foot facility in Irvine, tripling clinical space for cancer care and research.

  • In partnership with the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, it also launched an integrative oncology program led by Dr. Gary Deng.

Lend a Hand at Peters Canyon Restoration Day This Saturday

Join OC Parks for a Restoration Day at Peters Canyon Regional Park on Saturday, November 8, from 7:30–9:30 a.m. Volunteers will help improve native habitats through activities like weeding, watering, and planting.

Join IUSD’s Recycling Drive Challenge – November 15

Join the Irvine Unified School District’s Recycling Drive Challenge on November 15 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at the District Office. Students are encouraged to collect recyclables — including mixed wastepaper, CRV cans and bottles, and food/beverage cartons — to help raise money for their school and enjoy a special treat.

UC Irvine women’s basketball opened the 2025-26 season with a strong 72-54 victory over the University of San Diego. The win marks the Anteaters’ first over San Diego since 2008.

IVC Soccer Alum Lennart Granzow Earns Big South First Team Honors at UNC Asheville

Former Irvine Valley College soccer standout Lennart Granzow earned All-Conference First Team honors from the Big South Conference in his first season at UNC Asheville.

At IVC, Granzow was a two-time all-conference and all-state player, the 2023 Orange Empire Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, helping lead the Lasers to deep playoff runs in both 2022 and 2023.

Crean Lutheran Football Finishes Perfect Season, Clinches Historic Epsilon League Title

Crean Lutheran’s football team finished a perfect 10–0 season, defeating Laguna Hills 50–7 to win the Epsilon League championship — the first large-school league title in school history.
