Join a Free Irvine Workshop to Explore Energy-Efficient Home Upgrades

Join the Electrify Irvine workshop on Thursday, August 13, from 6:30–8 p.m. at the Deerfield Community Center to learn about energy-efficient home upgrades. Hosted by the City of Irvine, OC Goes Solar, and Home Energy Academy, the workshop will provide practical information on heat pump heating, air conditioning, and water heating, as well as available rebates, financing options, group discounts, and how to request free quotes from community-screened installers. The event is free, open to the public, and complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided.

Sean Joyce Returns to Lead the City of Irvine as City Manager

The Irvine City Council has appointed Sean Joyce as Irvine’s City Manager for approximately one year, effective August 10, as current City Manager Sean Crumby retires on August 14 after more than 30 years of public service. Joyce previously served as Irvine’s City Manager from 2005 to 2018 and brings more than 35 years of municipal leadership experience.

Orange Coast Soda Company is now open at Irvine Spectrum Center, offering customizable dirty sodas, signature specialty drinks, and made-to-order beverages with flavored syrups, creamy cold foams, fresh fruit, and a variety of toppings. Guests can create their own drink or choose from the shop's signature menu.

Join the Irvine Public Library for its End of Summer Bash on Saturday, August 1, from 2–3 p.m. at the University Park Library. The free, family-friendly celebration marks the end of the Summer Reading program while also celebrating the library's first anniversary with crafts, activities, and fun for all ages.

UCI Health Shares Tips to Help Prevent Sinus Infections During a Cold

Most colds improve on their own, but in some cases they can lead to a sinus infection. According to UCI Health otolaryngologist Dr. Hamid Djalilian, this happens when swelling in the nose blocks the sinus passages, causing mucus to build up and creating an environment where bacteria can grow. Because cold and sinus infection symptoms often overlap, they can be difficult to tell apart. To help reduce the risk, he recommends keeping the nasal passages clear by using saline nasal spray and, when appropriate, a decongestant nasal spray.

Join a fitness hike through Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve on Sunday, August 9. The guided 8.5-mile, level-4 hike covers Hicks Haul Road, West Loma, and Shoestring trails, featuring scenic panoramic views of Orange County with approximately 1,200 feet of elevation gain.

Festival Ballet Theatre’s Gala of the Stars Returns August 6

Festival Ballet Theatre’s 17th Annual Gala of the Stars returns to the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on Thursday, August 6, in association with Youth America Grand Prix. The one-night event will feature guest artists from internationally recognized ballet companies—including Maria Khoreva of the Mariinsky Ballet—performing alongside talented young dancers who recently completed two weeks of training with instructors from leading ballet programs.

Give a Longtime Shelter Pet a Fresh Start This August in Irvine

The Irvine Animal Care Center is participating in the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign from August 1–31, waiving adoption fees for its longest-resident pets to help them find loving homes. Visitors can look for the purple event icon on kennel cards to identify eligible animals, browse adoptable pets online, or visit the center in person throughout August to meet pets that have been waiting for their perfect match.

USA National Swimming Championships Underway in Irvine Through August 1

The 2026 USA National Swimming Championships are underway in Irvine through August 1, bringing together many of the nation's top swimmers, including Olympic champions Caeleb Dressel, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh, and Ilya Kharun. Opening-day winners included Dressel in the men's 100m freestyle, Luca Urlando in the men's 200m butterfly, Hannah Bellard in the women's 200m butterfly, Anna Moesch in the women's 100m freestyle with a championship record, Kate Hurst in the women's 800m freestyle, and William Mulgrew in the men's 1500m freestyle.

UC Irvine Men's Water Polo Announces 2026 Season Schedule

UC Irvine men's water polo opens its 2026 season by hosting the UCI Invitational on August 28–29, followed by a schedule featuring home tournaments, Big West conference matchups, and rivalry games. The Anteaters wrap up the regular season at home against Pacific on November 13 before competing in the Big West Championship in Long Beach on November 20–22.
